You think your thermostat will go before your water pump? The rule of thumb used to be to change out your thermostat when you where in there changing out your water pump.

I replaced mine at 85k when I flushed coolant. I wish I had a picture but it looked brand new still. Really easy job though, sits on the side of the engine facing forward, just two bolts and it's out.

I recently flushed the coolant system on my 09 that had about 145K miles. Replaced the thermostat at that time as well just as a preventative maintenance thing. So if you getting ready to replace the coolant I would suggest doing the thermostat at that same time with a engine that has 200K miles just for peace of mind. Really easy to access this part on these engines as was mentioned earlier.

remember the replacement rubber seal that goes with it, you need to replace it when you open it up.

Probably? I bought it at an Advance auto for less than 6 bucks, same place I got my thermostat. It's a very common size.

I bought a thermostat on eBay that came with the gasket, back in March 2019.

I don't really understand this. Changing your water pump with the thermostat.
Water pumps last a lot longer and it is in a different spot with having to take off the serpentine belt.

All I can say is at 100k miles my pump is fine, but changing the thermostat gave me a car that heats up quicker in the winter.
I've read posts here with 200k+ mile cars on the original water pump.

If anything I think changing the water pump should be done when you change the alternator.

My bad. What I should have said was "what I used to do." Water pumps didn't last very long back then. Something to do with coolant and pump material quality. Old habits die hard.
