Unswitching the 12V outlet
Unswitching the 12V outlet
Hi everyone,
I thought that would be a common discussion but I could not find it in the forum.. On my old Vibe, the 12V outlet in the console between the front seats was switched. There was a workaround which was to bypass a relay. Do we have a similar hack on the Gen2 Fit?
My goal is to hook a small solar panel to the outlet. I don't drive much and when I do it's just small errands that don't charge the battery enough. Also, I like to be able to keep my cell phone charging even when the car is not running (yah I know, it drains the battery which is counterproductive to my other goal. :) )
Alternatively, can someone point out an easy spot where I could splice the wires?
Cheers!
Martin

You can tap into the fuse box for power and run a new wire over to the outlet. I would tap into the hot side of the already existing AUX fuse and put a new inline fuse of the same rating (10amp?). The ignition switch is another 12V source you can use.
I did something similar in my Civic and wired it to a switch I mounted next to the plug.
