What else should I do when replacing sparkplugs and checking the valve clearance?

My Fit has 107,000miles on it 2012 1.3 CVT model(L13Z1 engine), I'm replacing the sparkplugs and checking the valve clearance(probably never been checked) which means taking off a lot of stuff.
While I have everything off is there anything else I should check out, maybe clean the throttle body or sensors?

These engines are very noisy but there is a noticeable ticking on the right side near the throttle body, is there anything in that general area that may cause that and need some attention that I can do whilst its all open?

Last question, has anyone tried the NGK BKR6E-11 in place of the Iridium sparkplugs?
This plug : https://www.ngk.com/product.aspx?zpid=9328
The NGK website shows it as an alternative sparkplug for the IZFR6K-11

I replaced the coil packs too but probably wasn’t necessary

Damn, that's probably taking preventative maintenance a little far, unless you suspected coil pack issues, OE coilpacks are pricey?

Was about $150 from amazon for the four. With spark plugs paid about $215 total. I had the misfire code and wanted everything handy when I went in there to diagnose. Turns out it was a loose spark plug, but “while I was there” just changed everything out and did the valves. Code went away and mpg jumped from 23 to 35.

Nice, that must have been awesome to find it was a simple fix like that, those loose sparkplugs seem common on these models, was yours also a Mk11?
Was your engine making any funny noises before you discovered the loose plug?
Aside from the normal clacky iVtec engine sound mine has a loud ticking on the gearbox end of the cylinder head area which I'm thinking may possibly be combustion noise from a loose sparkplug
What was the valve clearance like on yours and what was the mileage since it was last checked?

Before the code, no symptoms other then a gradual loss of power and bad gas mileage, which I attributed to all city driving. No noises other than the normal injector ticking. It’s a 2009 with about 45k on it and it was the first time the clearances were checked. One spark plug (on the cylinder throwing the code) was one to two turns from being completely backed out, and another plug was partially out too.
I remember I had to adjust one intake and two exhaust, the rest were pretty much in spec.

How were the sparkplug threads in the affected cylinders and did you replace them with iridium plugs?
Did you need to replace the valve cover gasket after checking the clearance?

threads were fine! I didn’t change the gasket it seemed perfect, just some new Honda bond of course

Some people recommend changing the gasket every time you open it but on my old CRV the valve cover gasket was ancient and I opened it twice without replacing it and no leaks or issues.
Does the Fit valve cover gasket also have a few sections where you need to apply Honda bond, 4 corners or similar, you don't need to apply it all over the gasket?

yeah, the 4 corners and any other bend. When you take the valve cover off you’ll see the old Honda bond just clean and reapply in the same areas
