Oil life at 15% after only 4,000 miles....?
Today, the maintenance light on my 2013 Honda Fit came on and the dash indicates that my oil life is at 15%. I was surprised to see this. I've barely driven 4,000 miles since my last oil change (synthetic blend at Valvoline) and I got more mileage out of the prior oil changes. Actually, I never got the oil 15% alert after those changes. The car's total mileage is currently around 54,500.
Should I be concerned? Most of my driving for the past few months has been in a wintry climate. Shorter drives in urban/suburban areas has been the norm, with the occasional longer trip on the highway. (Prior to winter, I was doing more longer drives on highways.) Driving style is pretty standard and I've gotten my maintenance on schedule.

Are you sure that the Oil Life was reset at your last oil change?
If so, I would suspect that your driving style/patterns during this oil interval match "severe use" (e.g., short trips without getting the engine/oil warmed up, lots of idling) and call for more frequent oil changes. Long highway trips are "easy" in terms of oil lifespan, so if your prior use matched that pattern you would expect longer oil change intervals.
I don't think the Fit is monitoring any functional aspect of the oil, it's just using simple metrics about how your car is used to make a guess about oil life.

This is what I've been trying to remember and unfortunately, I'm just not sure. So maybe the way to go here is get the oil changed, make sure the oil monitor is reset, and keep an eye on things. If the problem doesn't replicate itself, then I probably have an answer.

My understanding is the oil meter is actually a bit more advanced, I've seen mine anywhere from 5000km to 18000km (please don't EVER drive that long on a pan of oil). As an experiment I changed it when it said 20%, it stayed at 20% for a very long time. So there must be a conductivity meter in there and such too (or some sort of sensor anyways)
The lower distances I've seen was when we had a very big forest fire near by, every day for 2 weeks straight it seemed like our town was under heavy fog, except it was smoke. Of course no engine filter gets everything
That being said, as my Fit has gotten older, I change it every 6000km period.

Not sure but I don't think that the oil is directly monitored to determine when to change it. I think there's an algorithm based on miles / kilometers and maybe takes into account how hard you drive it.
have an Ultragauge hooking into my OBDII port and I bet there's like 50 things you can monitor. I'm usually watch inlet temp, engine temp, horsepower, gallons per min fuel flow, O2 sensor voltage. Again, the computer is monitoring a lot of stuff, so I don't doubt that it can come up with a 'good guess' on when it's time to change the oil.
But I lose my nerve when it gets to 20% / 8000 miles. We don't drive much, so we're about there just before winter, so I change it so I'm not laying in snow, 20 deg F, windy day.
