2009 Clock Update

Vehicle: 2009 Sport Fit with Navigation

The clock/date did not update. Date on display now reads Jan 1 2002. Seems to have happened around New Years day.

Owners manual says because the vehicle has the onboard navigation, the clock is updated by the GPS. Tonight I tried the GPS navigation system and it appears to work fine. The maps in the vehicle has never been updated.

Any ideas? Thanks

Same problem

Same clock problem just started with my 2009 fit with factory nav. Clock reverts to Jan1, 2002, 1:00 every time I start my car. Makes for a good trip clock, but I don’t need that. Anyone? TIA

from another thread:

This is a Honda Nav issue across all models.

Go to SETUP then hold down CANCEL-GUIDE-MENU buttons for 5 seconds to access diagnostic screen.
Run diagnostics and confirm that all is well.
Go to GPS INFO and it will show the satellite time, which is 20 years off and will say 2002. However. the (GMT) time is correct.

This is because GPS counts the year by counting weeks, and there is a limit of 1024 weeks. So it rolls over to zero every 20 years.

The junior engineers who programmed the nav system apparently did not understand this, which is why every honda nav system in the world with base year of 2002 is now displaying the wrong time.

People who have called Honda report that the official response so far is "the problem will auto-correct in August 2022".

I had the same problem on my 2001 Acura a few years ago, and it was eventually corrected by a firmware upgrade downloaded via the satellite link. This problem was supposed to auto-correct as well, but did not for me. One note is the download only worked when I reinstalled the original Nav DVD. Hope this is not the case with Fit.

You can access the DOWNLOAD link from the diagnostic VERSION item. I used this link, but it just downloaded the same version I already had.

Firmware cannot be downloaded from the GPS satellites. The GPS satellites only broadcast their locations, ranging signal and the time. A GPS receiver in a vehicle determines its location by triangulating from the signals from several GPS satellites. The firmware would need to be updated via Honda DVD or at a Honda dealership.
