2009 sport model strut replacement
2009 sport model strut replacement
I have 2009 fit sport model with 93k miles. It's just wife daily driver.
I will have to replace the rear strut (one blown) and going with the KYB Excel-G.
For the front, it's still good but 93k already. Should I also replace it?
The choice are KYB Excel-G strut and I have to assemble it or I can get the Gabriel Ultra Ready/mount with the spring and preassemble.
What are the thought of using Gabriel ultra ready mount front and KYB rear?
Is there a difference on the suspension between fit and fit sport?

Howdy and welcome.
Both submodels have the same suspension. The sport has bigger wheels, a rear anti-roll bar, pretty front bumper with fog lights, a rear "wing," and whatever electronic what-nots one had added I suppose. I think that's it.
Regarding the Gabriels, from what I've seen, aftermarket OE equivalent full assemblies use thinner, stiffer springs as a cost-saving measure. Would likely change ride a little, but the convenience is, well, convenient, and the price is right. If you should decide to go that route I'd advise retaining the original assemblies so that you could switch to OE springs later if desired.
An alternative option may be to contact your local mechanic to get an estimate for replacing two struts in coil on spring assemblies, off vehicle. If the price is too high (would also need to buy shock/strut mounts if hoping to avoid creaking noises) then you'd have a clear line of action.
Third route: 1-200 on a spring compressor from amazon. Doesn't really save money, but that's what I did.
