I have 2009 Honda Fit Base A/T at 80.000 miles. Last night while driving locally in NJ I heard a loud bang and car stalled immediately. I knew it was broken axle right away. Right side snapped under the booth due to rust as usual.
Called Honda dealer and mentioned them the service recall on drive shaft replacement. They confirmed my VIN and asked me to tow my car in. Luckily I had roadside coverage which handled that. Dealer is now replacing both sides of axles for free.
I was lucky that it happened in the city while turning right on an intersection. Could have happened on the highway on high speeds causing much bigger issues. So if you own Fit do not forget to get it serviced at the dealer. I was thinking that 80K miles won’t be an issue but apparently time counts, not the mileage.
I had mine changed at 160k kilometres. Never had issues before. It is nice to have new drive shafts for free with that kinda milage. Keep it coming Honda.
Mine snapped right before a long road trip in the middle of the night... kind of a bad luck good luck kind of a situation. Was able to get it replaced at a dealer with no issues after getting back.
Hey there, in a bit of a predicament. Took my 2009 Honda Fit with me overseas to Germany for my government job. Never got the drive shaft recall notice, just now found out about it in fact by joining this forum. Not sure why I did not receive it as it is registered at the military base I work on as a US vehicle. Anyway, at 85K miles the left drive shaft broke yesterday leaving me stranded for a tow for 7 hours. Crazy. Had it towed to a Honda Dealer in Stuttgart Germany where they called me and said both need replaced really, but that I need to order the part from America and have it shipped myself and bring it to them. Which will take forever if its even possible. I informed them, although they should already know (if EVEN I KNOW AND IM no mechanic!!!) that the Jazz and the Fit 2nd generation are the SAME CAR just marketed under different names. They insisted there is no way to be sure and they are no familiar with this notion. They insist I need a Fit drive shaft from America, they don’t want to order a Jazz part to have it not fit. They certainly never mentioned a recall but told me it would be quite expensive to fix. ( 700 euro for each drive shaft??) Perhaps the Jazz in Europe never had this problem??? Either way, not sure if Honda will pay to fix the drive shafts because its in Europe now? And where can I confirm to these guys that yes, they can use 2nd generation Honda Jazz parts to fix my car. For now it sits in their lot and I take the bus. . Any advice would be welcome. I assume first I should call Honda and have the recall letter sent to me… although not sure if that will help being I live in Germany at the moment. Thanks so much
