Not the usual head unit question

I hate touch screens. Especially in a car like my ‘09 Fit Sport, where taking your eyes off the road can put you in another lane—or a ditch.

So, I want to be able to take calls and play music from my iPhone, but I want to be able to control everything from physical buttons.

Am I SOL? Or is there either (a) an aftermarket head unit with decent sound and real buttons, or (b) a Honda factory head unit from another model that will do that, or (c) a way to modify my factory head unit or update the firmware to make it capable of reading from my 2021 iPhone SE?

IF you have HU controls on the left side of the steering wheel. They might be good enough. Because having research new HU's early this year. I can confidently say that unless you get one without Apple carplay and/or Android auto. You're probably looking for The Needle In A Field Of Hay

Start at crutchfield. They'll sell the required kit to add steering wheel controls to your Fit that work with the radio.

When I had my OEM head unit I added a bluetooth adapter like this one: Yomikoo Bluetooth Car Kit

I did not use a remote with my phone, but there are tons of bluetooth remotes on Amazon that work with smart phones, like: TUNAI Button Bluetooth Remote Control Kit for iPhone and Android

Eventually I swapped out my OEM head unit with a Sony touch screen, but I missed the physical buttons so added a steering wheel remote. But this controls the head unit and not the phone, so would not work for the OEM setup: Universal Smart Wireless Car Steering Wheel Control

My ‘11 sport has usb pass-through in the upper glovebox that worked with my iPhone. Wouldn’t help for calls, but it was there.

My Alpine ILX 507 has physical buttons, but no physical knob :’( If I could find a way to redirect the Tidal button to my currently playing music, it would be near perfect even without a knob.

I'm using a Kenwood dpx305 with a separate controller that allows you to use factory steering wheel buttons. I bought both from Crutchfield.

It even has Alexa voice control. Double din with big buttons and no touch screen. Great sound. I love it.
