Brake Pedal Spring Noise

Hello. I've had a back and forth with my mechanic about a metallic ping noise I get when I press the brake pedal (can feel it in the pedal a little too). This started after the mechanic replaced the pads, rotors and calipers. The brakes work well otherwise. When I took it back the first time because of the spring noise he said he oiled up the spring. He thought the noise started because the brakes are stronger now and that is putting different tension on the spring, which is old. After the oiling the noise was gone for about a day. The 2nd time I brough it in I got a bit of a run around about how the only other option is to replace the whole pedal assembly and it's a special part, etc. Input welcome. Thank you.

Have you stuck your head under the dash to take a look?
Wiggle the pedal around a bit, press it a bit, see what parts move or rub against each other to identify where the noise might be coming from. Lube those parts yourself and see if that solves your problem.

Brake and clutch pedal spring noise: Good question. If I understand the situation correctly, this is a problem that, while annoying, has no effect on the function of the brakes or clutch. Therefore, your mechanic may be a well-intentioned dreamer of dreams.

My 2 Cents:

1) Ignore it.

2) Try coating the spring in something like vaseline or bearing grease. This might muffle the noise.

N.B. I am not a metallurgist or spring expert. Maybe others on the forum have genuine knowledge here.

video with brake pedal noise

Thank you for the input. I think if you turn up the volume on the attached video you should be able to hear the noise. I believe it is coming from inside the plastic boot on the assembly. I cannot get inside there to spray any lubricant.

I am inclined to live with it but I am concerned the noise indicates something is on the way to failing.

Good video. Short on plot, but long on character.

I'm just some guy on the Internet, but it sounds like your diagnosis is correct, i.e., you have a little spring noise. I would not be concerned about spring noise. The springs in my clutch pedal make noise, and the springs in one part of my queen-sized mattress make noise. By the way, I have had spring noise come and go. Yours may disappear on its own. Good luck.

I appreciate the 2 cents. It's hard to estimate the significance of an unusual noise like this.
