Need guidance for wheel stud replacement front/rear
Need guidance for wheel stud replacement front/rear
I made the mistake of mounting some wheels that the hub bore was smaller than original honda hub.
Anyways I have 8 wheel studs that I'm going to need to replace (2 front/6 rear)
Is it possible to remove and install the front ones without separating the hub?
In the rear can I remove and install them with the brake shoes and hardware still installed?
Been doing some reading but have read conflicting things. Just trying to prepare and order parts before digging in. Thanks

I do not think so. I haven't had to replace front wheel studs yet, but I've been tracking this issue because I am aware that OEM studs can get mis-threaded or snap off pretty easily. (I never let anyone use power tools when they take off/put on my wheels.)
Hopefully, someone with real expertise will chime in here. Good luck.

EDIT: The studs also stretch if over-torqued (or so it appears to me.)

You have to pull the hub and change the wheel bearing, there is not enough clearance between the hub and the Bearing carrier on the knuckle. You need a slide hammer to pull the hub, and a on car wheel bearing press kit, you can get both on Amazon for less than $150 or rent them free from a local auto parts store, you’ll also need a new bearing, and I would change all four studs and new Lugnuts while you’re at it, so about $60 -80 in parts. This is for a car, not in the rustbelt, the job is about a two hour book job so a DIY give yourself about four hours. The backs are a lot easier, you just pull the axle nut and the Hub slide off , you don’t have to disassemble the brakes. if you go to a shop, this would be about a $400 repair, and yes, you’ll need a wheel alignment after.
