Does anyone have any pictures or videos to share on the proper way to store the Jack hardware in the spare wheel well...The noise it's making back there is driving me nuts....any info or tips on this will be greatly appreciated.
I think the proper thing to do is remove the jack and spare tire entirely.
If you've ever tried to remove the lug nuts with the provided wrench, it's not really possible. You would need a cheater bar or an actual breaker bar.
This is why I opted to remove mine and replace it with a piece of plywood under the carpet for my cargo.
Here's a picture for you. You might also try checking your owners manual there should be some pictures. Everything has a cut out in the foam more or less.
This is very helpful, thank you Virulence.....after seeing this pic I think my issue is I don't have or the Fit didn't come with the black styrofoam organizer that is in your pic. What is the actual name of that part and perhaps all I need to do is order that to organize the jack hardware?
My Fit is a 2010 Sport..since i didn't purchase it new I don't really know if it that black styrofaom organizer comes standard in the 2010 Fit Sport
I can say for certain my 09 doesn't come with styrofoam. The scissor jack goes in front of the tire. It has a little cubby hole, but basically you expand it to wedge it in the spot. The tire iron and screw in tow hook is just in a little bag. Here is where the jack goes:
The lug wrench that comes in a Fit can be a bit of a struggle, especially if your lug nuts are over tight, which isn't uncommon if you've visited a commercial tire shop or similar.
If you need to use the lug wrench in the car and are struggling, the easiest approach to take is as follows.
1) Orient the lug wrench on a lug nut so that the bar portion is parallel (or as close as possible) to the ground.
2) Carefully step with one foot onto the bar while steadying your balance on the side of the car. Unless you're a featherweight or your lug nuts are stupid tight your body weight should break the lug nut loose. Once they're loose, they should turn easily, even with the short lug wrench that comes with the car.
My 2010 Fit Sport also doesn't have the styrofoam organizer. As others have mentioned, there is a plate behind (towards the rear bumper) the spare tire. The scissor jack is positioned under this small plate and you then hand-turn the adjustment screw to expand the jack slightly and lock it into place.
