A/C Compressor Clutch stops working once engine heats up

Hey all! First time poster. My 2010 fit’s AC has stopped working (hasn’t worked for almost a year and just getting around to fixing it). I haven’t done deep diagnostics yet and wanted to get some opinions on how to begin. Here is what I do know:
-When I turn on the car and have the AC running, the fans turn on and so does the AC. I pop the hood and I can see the AC compressor clutch engaging (spinning). After a few minutes though, the air goes from reasonably cool to hot. At this point, when I pop the hood again, the AC compressor clutch no longer engages.
-I haven’t confirmed this but it also seems that on really hot days the AC compressor will never turn on.

All this makes me think that my AC compressor/clutch is working fine but I have some kind of problem with whatever electronic component tells the compressor to turn on and off.

Anyone have any ideas or some diagnostic steps I should take to narrow down on the problem? Thanks!

I wonder if it could be caused by a relay that's going bad?
