Backup camera issue

Hi, I was wondering if anybody could help. I currently switched out my radio for a boss be62cp-c and it came with a backup camera boss elpc40-b. The radio works great with no issues. The backup camera has clear imaging but the backup camera doesn’t automatically trigger. Does anybody have any ideas how to fix that?

what power source did you tap into? People normally tap into the reverse light. That way, the camera is powered on whenever the car is in reverse

So I didn’t tap into anything because I wasn’t sure. The wiring on my camera is a little different and I wasn’t sure how to go about it. My head unit has a green (labeled brake wire) and purple (labeled reverse trigger).

So where did you connect that red wire to?

from the camera itself, red line should be tapped into the reverse light so it gets the trigger. I believe the other red line that is closer to the head unit would splice into that “reverse trigger”

So there’s a metal piece at the end of the red line. What do I do to that

that metal piece (female) will connect to a metal male piece to connect them together

Do you know where the trigger wire is for a 2013 Honda fit base under the drivers dash

There is no stock trigger wire in the US Fits under the dash because the cars did not come with a backup camera. Your new radio apparently came with the backup camera feature and now you need to connect the wires from your new radio back to the back of the car for both the signal feed for the image from your rear camera and the power trigger wire that turns on the camera in your radio when you put the car into reverse to back up. That signal (power wire) is normally tapped into your tail light power wire, and activates the camera in your radio when you put the shifter into reverse to back up.

The problem I keep running into is that I see so many posts with people saying its a green wire but when I look at the wiring to my reverse light and then I look at the wiring under my dash in the front the wires don't seem to be matching up. Do you have anything you can show me on what you mean?

The colors of wires may vary from one manufacturer to another. Your head unit uses purple for the reverse trigger. Honda doesn’t have a “reverse trigger” cable. What you need is a cable that does not receive power when you are driving but will get power when the vehicle is placed in reverse. This is where the reverse light bulb comes into play. It will not get power until you put your vehicle in reverse
Grabs the back camera that has the yellow plug that goes into the back of the head unit. Grab the red cable that is coming out of that cable. Splice that red cable to the purple “reverse trigger”
Now, follow the reverse camera cable that is running to the back of your vehicle. There should be a stray red wire that is not connected to anything. Tap into the green wire of the reverse bulb. This will “trigger” the reverse camera when you place the vehicle into reverse.

So this is all the wiring that came with the camera and the only two spare wires from the head unit is the purple trigger and the light green for parking brake.

The simple answer is to connect the red wire with the purple wire coming from your head unit. Either snip off the connector on the red wire and just connect it to the purple wire using a splice connector.

how is you camera getting power? Did you run the power wires from the camera to the reverse bulb?

The red wire from the camera cord is attached to the head unit giving it power. Are you saying I shouldn’t attach it to that and I should attach the red wire from the camera cord to the purple trigger wire from the head unit?

this thread has turned into spaghetti. You stated previously that you didn’t connect the red wire to anything. Now you said the red wire is attached to the head unit for power. I’m trying to help but you’re giving conflicting information.

This is as simple as I can make it

So the camera is powered from the head unit. Apologies for the confusing messages. This is currently where I’m at and can’t figure out.
