I am slowly adjusting to some of the tech available in my car. On the weekend I discovered the backup camera wide view can see approaching cars just as well as looking over my shoulders when parked in a grocery store lot. I do wish the camera lines had distance numbers to give us confidence about what we are seeing. Eventually I absorb that the lines are 20", 39", 79" and 138". My brain is not calibrated in meters . . . yet.
I set my backup camera to the regular view. I found that the wide view made it harder for me to gauge backing up straight. I also backup to the dotted line, as this gives me some room behind the car to load, while not hitting the curb and damaging something.
I have a hard time using it because the depth perception seems way off while using it. I'm still waiting for the time when I can use the down looking view to creep real close in a parallel park. Other than that I usually ignore it.
The dotted yellow line is useful in that it denotes where the max opening of the hatch will be when opening....handy view, is say, parking in a garage and ya don't want the hatch door to hit yer garage door or anything....as far as the other two markers, I have no idea....but, yeah, I use the wide view, is handy, as 2Rismo2 stated above, if parked between 2 large vehicles, which is par for the course, where I live ....everyone drives a HUUUUGE pickup or SUV

Good tip about the dotted line, and I'll have to remember to use the wide view during those scenarios, I just haven't been stuck between two large vehicles yet.
