Hi All-
i have a 2012 Fit that lately has had excessive moisture/condensation on the inside windshield in the mornings. I have made sure the windows are closed and doors shut. I took the car down to Safelite to check the windshield thinking the seals may have degraded, which were fine. I also changed the cabin air filter.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? Maybe a clogged Ac line?
Did you check to see if the carpet was damp? If so, where? Each foot well is a distinct "watershed" in the Fit.
Water can easily enter the cabin through the doors if the water barrier behind the door cards comes loose. It happened on my 2010 after I had the doors apart to add sound deadening material.
A clogged A/C line can also lead to water inside the cabin. It happened in my previous car: as I was going around a sharp curve my wife had quite a bit of water dump on her shoes.
Water can also enter the rear hatch area if the seals around the rear tail lights fail. In addition, the 2007-08 Fits commonly had issues with leaks in the drip channel on the roof. I'm not sure if that continued in the 2009-13 models but if so there are likely posts here. Check the spare tire well to see if there's any moisture there.

Thanks- I will have to inspect the car when my kid comes back from school.
I forgot to mention the car smells musty. Thats why I was thinking it was the Ac line/ evaporator
Hi All- update to this.
carpets are dry but the car smells musty. There definitely is moisture/water in the spare tire well. But it doesn’t smell musty back there. All the door seals appear to be intact. Also when my son runs the defrost he tends to leave the AC off.
There shouldn't be water in the spare tire well, so that requires investigation. I would dry that area out by hand and see if the water comes back.
I wouldn't expect that area to smell musty when wet because it's just metal and rubber. But, if the humidity is high enough in a vehicle you're going to have a general musty smell.
Not sure if you're talking about the obvious door seals, but I was talking about the plastic layer under the door cards. Even if you've never had the doors apart for maintenance/repair, the butyl glue stuff that holds this on can come loose after 10+ years. Jump to around 3:00 in this video to see the inner plastic layer. If it fails or comes loose, you will get water inside the cabin after heavy rains or a carwash.
Hi All- thanks for everyone’s suggestions. I think we isolated the problem with water coming in. We think it’s the running board channel where it meets the trunk door area. Looked like a crack in the weld over time? We also tested the rear taillights but no water seemed to be getting in.
We took off all the panels in the trunk area to see where water was coming in.
The carpets under the back seats were actually damp too. We think when the car slowed down when braking it sloshed water forward from the spare tire area. We think this was the cause of the musty smell.
We will seal it and test it to see if it still leaks.
Good job. There are many posts here about the sealant cracking in that area, so you should be able to find some recommendations for the best product to use to try to reseal it.
Yep, mine started leaking from here as well. I used some Gorilla Waterproof silicon sealer and it seems to be working really well. It's not the prettiest fix but no more water coming in.
