Permanent CEL & Airbag Codes
Permanent CEL & Airbag Codes
I just purchased a 2012 Fit Sport for my wife and I have to say this little machine is very well put together (besides all the plastic). However, when I test drove it I noticed it had an airbag light on and the owner told me it had been on since the car got “bumped” into from the back. I went and noticed just small scuffs but no evidence of an actual accident. Once I got home I put my scanner on and indeed there was 2 SRS codes: F1-11 The driver's airbag and/or driver's seat belt tensioner has deployed and E2-11 The front passenger's airbag did not deploy due to SWS operation as well as it showed the Smog Readiness monitors as “Incomplete”, indicating codes had been erased 24 miles prior to the sale. I contacted the seller about this and he said the vehicle never had CEL codes (He did provide a Passed CA smog certificate) but he had just “jumped” the battery to start it up since it had died. I have driven the car about 20 miles myself so far and no CEL has appeared and car runs fine, so my question regarding this specific situation is… Am I suppose to do the complicated removal of the Airbag Module and send it in to reset the crash data to remove these codes? Also. will the OBD2 scanner show it as a “DTC” when a battery was dead and jumped? I know it will reset the ECU and monitors when a battery dies and is jumped or is removed, but did not know it would show up as a “DTC” on the scanner.
A bonus questiont to eliminate the need for a 2nd post. Upon continuing my thorough inspection of the engine, I removed the coil and spark plug from Cyl 1 to check the common “loose plug” issue and it was torqued well and no signs of excessive wear to the plug. However, when I installed it all back together, i didnt clip the electrical plug completely and when i turned the car on I got a CEL with P0351 Ignition Coil 'A' Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction. I thought the code which had been possibly erased as mentioned above had finally come on but as I looked closer, since it was related to the cyl I removed the parts from, I noticed the plug was loose and I reinstalled it correctly. Code stayed on. I used my scanner to erase it and when reading for codes again, it showed no “current” codes but left the P0351 as a “Permanent” code. Is this normal and should it go away or should I attempt and use a much more advanced scanner to clear it?
Thank you all in advance!

Realize that if you own and use a scanner you're in the top 0.01% of automobile users, and even most folks who are DIY mechanically inclined are not going to know how you should deal with specific trouble codes. For the other 99.9% of us, the best we can do to help is search the Internet for information about the codes you found, which you can obviously do yourself.
While there were once frequent contributors here who might have had the specific knowledge you're requesting, you are correct that there are far fewer regular visitors now. That is inevitable when the Fit was last sold in the US in 2020.

wish it was a fact the fit was made in 2013 why this is a ghost town, since there are forums who are for 90s Hondas and are super active lol.
Perhaps the fan and enthusiast base is what lacks here but good to know, perhaps ill try a different site. Thanks for taking the time to respond.
