I won't be getting mine until January but have a deposit on it. The price is already set at 19138 OTD for Sport 5MT with Navi/VSA and all-weather floor mats. So that's pretty much MSRP + destination, tax, and fees. Not too bad I don't think.

Refuse to pay it. My dealer tried that game with me when I just bought this Fit last week, and I said forget it (and got the car without the surcharge).

I threatened to buy a Yaris, so you might try that tactic. Pretend like youre torn between the two and you really want Honda to give you a good reason to pick the Fit.

If they don't budge, just walk out and tell them to call you when they're willing to negotiate. I helped a family member get a steal on a Mustang convertible this way.

With the internet you should be able to locate all the dealers in your region. Some of them will even quote you a price without you having to go in. It might mean a few hour drive to go pick the car up, but it's worth it.

Well guys just got back from my local dealer "Dublin Honda". I was checking out the first 2009 Fit they got in, just arrived this afternoon. It was still in prep when i saw, but i got to see the 3900$ market adjustment!!!! All i did was laugh. Consider yourself lucky if you get 1000$ over MSRO as sad as that is.

Yeah, if the dealer tries to mention anything above MSRP, I'll tell him I'm going to do one of the following.

1. Consider a Yaris, or Versa. (not really)
2. Might as well buy a Civic. (same if not better fuel economy)
3. Go to another dealership in an outlying area that'll offer me MSRP, and tell him I know many people who have received theirs @ MSRP.
4. Bottom line, I'll go to another dealer and take my chances elsewhere. Fit, Civic, or otherwise.

I've been talking to this guy about the '09 fit since May. Hopefully I've built a good enough rapport with him, that he won't try to pull any obscene tricks. It's my first time buying a new car, but I won't put up with any cost adjustments on account of market trends. I have my heart set on this car, but I'll walk out and move on if I have to.

For those who are going to spend the time looking around anyway, I'd recommend you just negotiate with your dealer. You'll sped some time, but less than driving around, just negotiating with them the old fashioned way. They'll sell the car at MSRP. They'd be stupid not to.

I bought my Fit 4/20/06 -- the very first day they were released for sale. Dealer had 4 in stock, all sold that day, mine was 3rd in line. I paid MSRP and not a penny more, as did everyone else. Fit demand has been high ever since the beginning yet LOTS of people got their's for MSRP or less even, and still are. You may have to wait some, but that's better than paying for nothing.

And for the record, I'd rather pay $1000 to watch PPV porn and get my rocks off than get fck'd in the a$$ by a dealer trying to make a quick buck.
hahha! thats totally true! i didn't pay over msrp either.

granted, the OP has to make one important decision:

how bad do you want it? are bragging rights for a month worth the 1k?

its not as BIG of a deal as some are making it out to be, because thats why markup exists: people are always willing to pay it.

edmunds tmv shows that even the current fit's invoice is only a few dollars less than msrp, whereas cars like the accord and civic are a different matter.

If a dealer has one new Fit, or two, and he isn't going to see any more for a few weeks, guess what? He can ask whatever price he wants and somebody out there is going to be stupid enough to pay it. Supply and demand. I myself would walk. You'll find it at MSRP if your patient.

I bought my Fit after grinding a Toyota dealer over a Camry SE. I wanted a silver one, they were trying to get me to take the white one they had on the lot. I had them big $$ off, but we were probably three hundred off because they had some shit on there I could care less about. I walked. They called me a few days later besides emailed me. I had already put money down on the FIT and called them back and told them next time to take someone like me more serious.

I wish I bought the Camry because I would have put a lot less money into modifying the damn thing than my Fit. Oh well.

They're going to keep doing that tp the fits, because they can. It's just like the Mugen SI's... except those were marked up 5, 10, 15k. lol

We get ours in 3 weeks. No pressure and no market adjustment from our salesperson. Our out-the-door price (destination, taxes, and plates) for an '09 Sport automatic is $19,333.

I am on a waiting list for a red sport AT. I confirmed with my sales guy that there would be no markup, my price is 17580 plus ttl, window tint and the cargo mat if they have it. If I have to buy it while it's still on the boat (I have pre-approved financing that expires on Sept 13th) they said they would provide a loaner for me to drive until it gets here.

Honda has done it again!

I am truly amazed by this thread. I love my '07 and I am sure that the '09 is a really nice car. However, people talking about over $19k for the Fit...that just seems a little nuts to me.

Honda has {removed the word "done" that made me sound like a total hick!} played the supply and demand game again to have people considering spending more than MSRP. They are the masters at it...look at the early S2000's, the 1999 Civic Si, even the Odysseys and Pilots...they always put the bare minimum on the lot in the beginning to create enough demand that people start paying more than MSRP.

To the idiots here who used to sell cars and think that pricing over MSRP is fine because it is less per day than a candy bar or eating out once a month...you are full of crap. If people actually bought that garbage and bought from you, you are really lucky.

Of course, I love it...when I look at the blue book value of my '07 with 70,000 miles on it...I am thrilled. I hope people keep paying too much...it is certainly helping used Fit values. It just means when it is time for me to trade on a 2010 Fit, I'll be in great shape. Of course, I'll again only buy one if I can get it for MSRP or less.

I bought my Fit as the first one off the truck from my dealer and paid $500 less than MSRP. I'll admit that I would have been willing to pay MSRP, but not a penny more.

The Fit is an awesome car, and it is a bargain at MSRP. When you start talking $19k (even if it has GPS) I really can't see it...especially when you can pick up loaded Civics for just a bit more. Especially when a nice Garmin is now $250.

If the '09 Fit is a bargain at MSRP, then how come you then say you can't see it at $19K? MSRP for a Sport auto is $17,550; with tax and other incidentals, it will be in the low $19K range. We wanted 4 doors, and the Civic sedan is great but not as compelling as the Fit....

Wow. Just saw in another thread an 09 Fit marked up with a $3999 Market Adjustment fee. That is balls.

When I heard the 09s were starting to appear I went to my Honda dealer today. None in yet, but put down a $500 deposit for an 09 Sport AT in either Silver/Gray/Black when they get them - they have a Silver arriving Tuesday but someone else already has it reserved so if the buy it, then mine will be the next they can get their hands on.

They are only charging MSRP, no bullshit markup, plus they are giving me a very good price for my trade.

I would definitely not pay a $1000 markup - though I get that they charge it because they can, it's basically a vanity fee: If you have more money than sense and can't stand to wait. Like the people paying $1000s for Xbox 360s, PS3s and Wiis when they came out - if you have enough disposable money to burn and absolutely NEED it right now, go for it - but just understand that as others have said you are basically paying a $1000 "give it me now" fee that is going directly to the dealer, not paying for the product. Otherwise just be patient and enough stock will hit the market in your area that you'll find it for retail.

Was just simple internet ignorance on my part...I didn't see the out-the-door part.

I only buy manuals, so I guess value to me is skewed by the fact that they get quite a bit more for the slushbox.

I agree the the Fit is a compelling buy...I just get worked up when salespeople talk about what people should do with their life in order to give a dealer an extra grand or two in profit.

I get ticked off when "Wal-Mart" charges me $1.00 more than what it was suposed to be. I will NOT pay more than MSRP for any car. I got my 08' BBP with a MT for $15,800 out the door from McDavid Honda after leaving Honda of Clear Lake wanting me to pay the same price for a base model. I went there yesterday and they said they would charge me $2,000 over MSRP for the 09' Sport AT (for my wife) and said that I wouldn't get a better deal than that anywhere else. I told them that I came here last November and that I got a way better deal at McDavid Honda and I wanted to give them the chance to win my business. If you find somone wanting your money enough, you use that against the next dealer as leverage. Just hold out till they have a few too many GE's on the lot and they will move on their price.

"More fuel to the fire"!

BTW, that $3,900.00 mark up TOOL is talking about at Dublin Honda is actually $3,999.00 and as of this afternoon 09 MR Fit Sport A/T is gone from the showroom floor!
I hope they are on the forum and tell us just how much did they really pay for it. Knowing the dealer they did not save much!
