Glad you're all set. So how long was your car sitting there waiting for you? 4 1/2 days, lol? Kidding.

Another cool feature that someone here posted was when your front wipers are doing their thing and you put it in reverse, the rear wiper comes on automatically. Nice thoughtful feature!

I hear it's a major job but wanted some input as I wait (not so) patiently by the phone...
When I priced out the remote starter for my mom's Civic, the dealership said it would be 2 hours labour. Sure the Civic is larger, but the FIT should not be that much more difficult. The following URL is the installation instructions for the FIT. Installation instructions

I don't mean to alarm you, but perhaps something broke and they are awaiting parts?

Well my dealership sent me an online survey to fill out about the service so I let them know! First I got no call Monday or Tuesday updating me on my car, then I asked when I called yesterday about the carpet clips being installed and was told yes, then I get there and check on the clips only to find they were NOT installed, then I have to wait 30 mins to get this done and notice my car sitting at the front...I went to ask "hey, what's up...is my car ready or what?" and it was. So, I took time out of my work day to go out there to just pick up my car but ended up having to wait for the clips installation and then they didn't even tell me when it's ready! Not a happy camper.

ANYWAYS, they emailed back that the starter only came in yesterday morning and they finished installation early PM. On the matter of the mat clips, they said: "all weather mats did not come with those specific clips therefore the technician was not aware that clips were requires to be installed, and when asked on the phone if everything was installed, everything that was available to him was installed. We were able to manage getting them installed when you arrived yesturday as quick as possible."

Hopefully this is as much drama as I'll every have to deal with! I'm new to the Honda family so the opening number hasn't left me too impressed...smooth sailing from now on!

My dealer told me 4-5 hours! Who knows? The unit itself was defective so they had to order a new one Friday afternoon. It only came in yesterday morning, hence the delay. Anyhow, it's in now and working properly so it's all good...

That's the difference between mechanics and electrical automotive technicians.

Mechanics don't know beans when it comes to electronics. Atleast 90% of them don't. That remote starter is a plug and play system, it would take a MECP certified installer about 30 minutes to install that remote starter, and probably only about 5 minutes after to determine that the unit was defective. I installed my own in my 07 Fit, it wasn't a plug and play unit since that wasn't available for our cars.. it took me 1hr from start to finish.

I have a personal gripe with mechanics.. especially some "Honda" ones.. I had my 2000 Civic Si-R in for warranty work 1 month after I bought it new. It rained bad one day and after work I got into my car and I had a 3 inch deep lake in my car from front to back.. took it in, and the "most experienced and best senior mechanic" looked at my car.. said it was my alarm installation that caused 15 gallons of water to enter from the firewall... he showed me how he thought the water was trickling in from my siren wire through the firewall.. I called bullsh!t on him, but they charged me $750 to have him look at my car for 6 hrs. All he did was put some putty on the hole in the firewall (which was 1/2" in diameter).

Needless to say, it rained again that night and in the morning, my car was once again soaked on the inside.

The dealer then told me they would take it into their body shop, but I was responsible to pay the bill for them to look at it. They estimated it would take anywhere from 5-7 days and I couldn't get a courtesy car. And unless they could prove it was a warranty issue they wouldn't cover any of it. The car was 1 month old, had 400kms on it. I was outright disgusted by them. I asked them to refund the $750 they charged me for not fixing my leak the first time.. then the manager of the dealership said "we'll refund your money, but you can no longer come back here for anything". Boy, was I pissed off.. I said "fine". The next day, I went to a different dealership to sell my car to them. They gave me 2k less than what I paid for it. And the next week I went to another dealership and bought another new 2000 civic Si-R and I didn't have a problem with it for the 3 years that I owned it.

Sorry for going on a rant.. this isn't the place for me to do this.. it just came back to me after hearing that some mechanics just don't know jack when it comes to certain things.. Even though I had a bad experience with that dealership, I still bought another Honda.. just not from them.

I'm glad you got your stuff sorted out in the end and that they treated you well.

I don't think bad customer service has anything to do with the manufacturer, but the management.

I've brought my Acuras to this one dealership in Santa Monica for years and they were absolutely horrible. Bad attitudes the moment you drive up. They look at you as if you're driving up their private residential driveway or something. Then, not only did they not fix the problem with the car, they either add to it or the car gets dinged or scratched.

But just across the street there's a Honda dealer where the attitudes are much much better and I have yet to get a single scratch or ding on my cars from there.

As for your mat clips...the clips come with the mats in the box. I saw them right in front of me when I opened the box. Can't believe it took them 30 minutes either. It took me less than 10 and I've never installed such a thing before.

Oh oh...after going through a similar major drama with Mazda, not what I want to hear about Honda! Hopefully my dealership proves their merit in the long haul...

Yup, I agree. I got my "Honda purchase survey" last week and gave them a glowing review. This survey was for "post servicing" and they followed up immediately. Impressed with that! Yesterday was just a bad day since they didn't bother to update me on Monday then I go in, expected to get my keys and leave, only to be stuck there another 45 minutes. Not good. HOWEVER, overall my impressions are that Palladino is an excellent dealership. Hey, they even gave me an '09 Fit as a loaner and put in that trim, free of charge! No complaints there..

As for crappy dealerships, oh I have LOADS of experience with Mazda! For anything other than regular servicing, the Service Manager just looked at me like I was such a hassle and not worth his time. Final straw was when they lost my warranty booklet in July, it took me 2 months of constantly asking to finally get a new one, then they hand it to me EMPTY. I went back in, threw it on his desk and said "what I need is the DATA as in an exact copy of the book you lost 2 months ago!" Again, looked at me like I was being so unreasonable in this request. Needless to say, my GR8 Pumpkin (and the fact that it's a Honda, not a Mazda) is all the more appreciated after this crappy customer "service".

The mat clips were IN my car to boot, which makes this whole scenario kind of hilarious (in retrospect that is). I found the packet under one of my rear mats when I was cleaning out the car. Handed it over to the Service Department last week and asked them to install them. I really don't know what the issue was but at least now it's all resolved.

Phew! Took 2 weeks after my original pick-up date to get all the accessories installed but now I'm done. Hopefully I won't be bringing the Pumpkin into the dealership any time soon (although my opinion of them IS improving with the feedback).

Oh, FYI, they did answer my question on the remote starter. Apparently that "automatic defrost function" is NOT available on the Fit. I somehow don't entirely believe them so will just set it and see what happens. If my rear defrost/heated side mirrors do go off, that would be GREAT! Huge bonus since my area typically gets -20 Celcius to -35 Celcius winters (-4 to -31 Fahrenheit)....

Isn't -35 C like -60 F or something? That's cold!

Campbell Scientific (Canada) - Temperature Conversion

That converter tells me -35 Celcius = -31 Fahrenheit. Either way yes, very cold! We've even had a very few days in the -40s Celcius (lashes and nose hairs freeze...skin tingles). Sudbury is kind of known for our harsh winters.

For me it was the dealership's business manager who told me the exact same thing. I rated them 5/5 for all categories except condition of car at delivery. I found a spot which had been obviously touched up with paint and they didn't even tell me about this! Not sure if that means they overall get a fail if 1 out of several categories doesn't get a perfect score, but oh well. I was completely honest....

FYI, I got the "car purchase" survey via email about 1 week after I took delivery on Sept. 24. THIS survey was a post service survey to see if I was satisfied with the experience. Evidently, NOT....

There must be something wrong with that temp converter, because 0C = 32F. I don't understand how -35C can be equal to -31F. If you put in -31C it says -23F. Just doesn't add up, but who cares. It's damn cold either way. I digress.

Centigrade and Fahrenheit scales converge at minus 40 degrees-- -40C is the same temp. as -40F. The closer you get to minus 40, the more narrow is the difference between C & F.

I had no idea. Hmm, so you do learn something new everyday.

Do they converge again on the plus side?
