You don't need to lose a key. that is very oldschool. There's 3 or 4 companies now that make bypass modules to simulate a key.

For the heated mirror and defrost outputs. any good installer can make them work. just takes more time to find the wires for it and hook it all up.

It's amazing that the remote starer companies don't bother doing anything to help educate the customer in general. Either that or there's just too many salesman out there not enough actual technicians.

Holy Cow is right!!!! $1795USD.. whoa.. even though that one does heat up the inside too without wasting gas.. at that price u might as well start up the reg way.

I hate to imagine how much they want for the sunroof, and seat ventilators... damn I really do have the "Fever", I hope its curable, cause at this rate I'm gonna spend more on accessories than the car itseld..

reps right back at ya..

What exactly is "wrong" with the OEM Honda car starter? Figured I should ask since it's now installed in my car! I haven't tried out the automatic defrost/defog yet to see whether or not I get this function.

They tend to just plain not work once in awhile. Untill you go start the car with the key. The have very little range and they are ludoucrisly overpriced.

I do intalls for alot of car dealers. They charge the customer on average about $600 for an aftermarket remote starter. The company I work for bills them $289. The dealers are making a killing and most if not ALL will tell you it was professionally installed by a honda(or insert other name here) technician.

I like educating the public on how this really works. If you come into the shop where I work we charge $329 (dealers get a discounted rate due to repeat business). I do 2 NIssan Dealers 1 Honda dealer, a mazda dealership as well as 2 Hyundai dealerships. All charge minimum $550. so $221 profit for calling me and losing one of their bays for about an hour and half.

And just about every single car dealer in canada is the exact same. So unless for some odd reaso you are hell-bent on gtting an OEM remote starter. Take your business to a qualified independant shop. Not a big box store either. While some have good installers, for the most part, they hire inexperienced people who's quality of work is certainly not up to par.

Hmm...well, I'll report back when winter hits to give my review of this OEM remote starter. So far I'm loving the remote with screen that even shows me the current status of the car (locked-engine off, etc). Range is good right now as I can even operate it clear across my house and all the way from my building at work to the parking lot.

Dang. Too late for me since I had this added to my original list of accessories and the OEM starter is installed! Oh well, as long as it performs well this winter (ultimate test in our -30 and colder weather) I'll be happy, despite the high price tag.

FCG-
Unfortunately, you have to be a member of these forums for quite a while before you learn who are the good sources of info. that will save you from making unwise buying mistakes. Don, and Radareclipse, have been really good at giving sound advice on electronics issues. You seem to have been "taken advantage of" regarding the remote starter, but that's where the profit comes from in dealerships.

Well, I'll hold off on proclaiming my stance at "being taken advantage of" after a few months of winter. As long as the unit performs to my expectations, I'll be satisfied. Pricing wise, yeah going through Honda is more expensive which I fully realize after purchasing a dozen accessories through them. You do pay for the convenience of having everything done before you pick up the car (or, in my case, shortly thereafter). Anyhow, I'm not feeling ripped off at this point until I give the remote starter a good trial. Cost-wise, I knew I'd be paying much more than aftermarket but I was willing to do so to get the OEM Honda unit.
