We were seriously considering the Civic. It is a much better deal if you just need a commuter sedan IMHO.

It was the hatch that did it for me, though. I have 3 large dogs. I need a place I can put them without messing up my car too bad.

I don't know how many times the Fit would have come in handy where my old Saturn 4 door just wouldn't cut it and I had to borrow an SUV from someone. The Fit is just the perfect mix of small car and utility.

I just came off a 93 Geo metro with 190K miles on it (my daily commuter).

I did like the hatchback look.

I drove a civic for a loaner from the dealer. The split dash sucks, I hate the digital speedometer. and the look was not cool.

If the Fit is a sub compact, the Geo is a sub-sub compact.

I bought both. Si coupe and Fit Sport, best of both worlds.

The Si is a lot faster than the Fit. But the Fit is much better for hauling things, and you can fit two bikes inside on a rack. The Fit has better visibility when compared to the Civic coupe. I take the Fit on road trips and when I buy something I can't fit in the Si. The Si is a more expensive to drive but it's worth every penny in driver satisfaction. I usually choose to drive the Si.

you know, to be honest. I never have liked civics too much. but the first time I drove a fit, I really enjoyed myself. I honestly never considered the civic at all despite friends, family, and even dealer recomendation.

My question to you all, therefore, is: What made you choose the Fit for your new car over similarly priced and equipped competition?
The sole reason I bought the Fit was lack of an alternative 4 door with stability control that I could afford. I would have bought a Civic if VSA was available on something other than the EX-L.

To me the Civic is just kind of plain and not as unique as the Fit. I love the Fit's interior versatility and I think it's more fun to drive - at least with the manual transmission. The Fit just has "Character" :-)

I like the Civic, but I LOVE my Fit Oh, and having 10 cupholders doesn't hurt either

I wanted a smaller car (used to drive a Ford Contour) that was more utilitarian. Sedans are great passenger cars, but not practical when you want to have the occasional load of crap. It's a Honda, so the reputation is there. My overall Fit choices were size, MPG, safety, cost and how much crap I can fill it with. That and I really like the fit body more than the civic, I love driving in utility mode. The civic looks good, I just like my fit more.

Can someone post a pic of the civic you are comparing to the 09 fit, as there are so many versions, would help me out as have read the whole thread. And will give me a better overview of what everyone is talking about. I had a 2002/3 typeR 3 door civic, which was very cool 6 speed high revving little monster before moving from the UK back to NZ, and that’s the first civic that comes to mind when reading this thread.

Still haven't got the Fit yet but was considering the Civic. Loaded Fit for $17k FTW. Stylish looks, space, peppy, and my wife will look hot in it. And it's true JDM 100%. I was at the dealer and we sat in both the Fit and Civic. There is so much more visability in the Fit. I am 6'5" and can actually fit in the back seat of the Fit with the front seat all the way back. I just wish the Fit was 5 lug. I love swapping oem Honda/Acura wheels. In the future, drop a k20 in the fit, it you'll beat any SI.

Inside Specs

Test drove both the Civic and Fit. The Fit felt so much more roomier by virtue of the hatchback. The seats fold down to allow so many options for carrying items. Plus it was much more fun to drive. In addition, the look of the Fit is a head turner.

I wanted a small, cheap and economical car that had a large cargo room.

Before desiding to buy the car I test drove about 18-20 diffrent cars. None of them was as cheap and had that large cargo bay due to the extremly clever rear seats.

The car has also a very sporty feeling when driving, tight and good response to the steering. I have a good sitting comfort in it. And just after a few days I fell in love with the CVT transmission too. It so smooth and give a very comfortable ride.
