Info after 800 miles
Traded in 2005 black passat diesel after water damage from storm faye here in Fl. I wanted a car that got the 30/40 that it got but in gas.
On september 21 picked up 2009 FIT SPORT $17580 @ 6.99%
GREAT DRIVER...GREAT HANDLING...LOW GETTY UP...GREAT CITY CAR
Put tire pressure to 50 fr and 45 rear (best mpg and ride variation)
At 500 miles found my hard drive super magnet and attached to bottom of oil filter
@ 600 miles changed oil filter(bosch) only, not oil, topped off ,same filter as honda st1300...HAHAHAHA
found bits of metal as expected (same as in new motorcycle)
@ 1000 will change to mobil 1 synthetic 5-20...made for honda-amg-viper-corvette
I run my oil the full 10000 mile interval but change filter at the 5000 mile mark (50%) as the oil is good for 20,000 and is more of a green approach.
35% tint all around(lumar platinum) 5% *in stipe across front(sun glare)
We miss having a sun roof...thinking about putting one in...wife a little less
convinced...HAHAHAHA
So far so good...new to forums...will try to figure out putting up pics.
THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HOST AND PARTICIPATES...BILL H
AVG MPG AT LEAST 10% TO MUCH

Honda recommends against changing your oil for the first time before the maintenance minder tells you to. They add alot of molybdenum to the first batch of oil.
FWIW, someone had previously done used oil analysis on the factory fill oil in the Fit and it had pretty/very high moly content as I recall. This could be from assembly lube or Honda could use a high-moly oil for breakin purposes. I know there's lots of controversy about "special" break-in oil formulations that manufacturers may or may not use. Honda is pretty clear on not changing the oil early, though.
Just thought I'd throw that out there.

im at ~850mi and the oil life still shows 100%
I thought the Oil Analysis tests show the Honda break-in oil is good quality Dyno oil with 400 ppm Moly. That should be pretty easy to duplicate. Just as a data point I drained the oil out of my new '85 VW GTi at 150 miles. Ended up draining it into a shiney stainless kettle. In the sun it was amazing how much glitter was in suspension when looking at the "clean" oil in the sun. Started using Schaeffer's oil (120 ppm Moly) for the oil/filter changes and 190,000 miles later the engine and car were still running great. The original clutch was changed at 120,000 miles so I guess I drove it like an old man.
UOA #1
UOA #2
Both were over 600 ppm moly. I'm not sold on the whole break-in oil thing, but it would seem the manufacturer would err on the side of caution since they have to warrant the engine. Then again, saying to wait for the Maintenance Minder makes the car appear more maintenance-free and maybe reduces the barrels-of-oil-per-year rating.
I'll probably just wait until the Maintenance Minder goes down to 15% on mine, but if I did dump the factory fill, I'd definitely choose a high moly oil, maybe even non-synthetic for that first change.

What if a manufacturer knew that their motor was going to get the first 5000 miles of its life cruising around a congested city with an automatic that shifts lazily at 2000 RPM, lots of cold starts, idling, etc. Would that scenario influence a manufacturer to do something different with their break-in oil (as a precaution)? Just trying to think of worst case which the manufacturer needs to plan for.
the only thing that ever concerned me was metal in the oil.
this is why i change my oil early.
just like Blackthunder stated he found bits of metal in his oil
at 600 miles.
Blackthunder
please if you can we all would like to see the bits of metal.
i'm really intrested in what they look like and how much and
big they are.
so can you please post pics

Sorry, oil filter is gone. If anyone has used a file to sharpen a lawn mower blade or a knife, you have seen the fine metal filing before. I ran mine over a magnet and to verify what i saw. Due to the average feelings of great break in moly oil I will change filter only at 1500 again then all of it at 3000 to mobil 1 5-20. This is my first Honda so will vary my normal to what and how the oil allows. Even my wife noticed a change after a good breakin drive and oil filter change. This car is new to all of us and we can have fun as we learn together. THUNDER
??????????
Please explain this hard drive magnet attached to the bottom of the oil filter. I am quite capable of TOTALLY missing the point and I'm not wanting to be a jerk.
My guess is he's using a hard drive erasing magnet to magnetically capture metal bits in the oil filter. Or, maybe it's a "smart" magnet with a hard drive in it, the metal bits are stored on the hard drive. Yeah, I'm sure that's it...
gears and bits of stuff like cams, cylinder linings, etc. Aluminum is too soft for that sort of stuff.
Great thoughts guys. I a hard drive are 2 rare earth...very very strong magnets. they will give yoy a blood blister if you get your finger skin caugh in between. Yes there is alot of aluminum but not in wear spots as stated by ifthefoo. Honda put mioly side skirts on the piston and special bearing stuff etc...but metal will find its way to the oil pan or filter. Since the oil pan is aluminum tha magnet will not work well...but the oil filter is metal and hold the metal and the magnet for better removal. In the good old days all cars came with magnetic drain plugs. Suzuki motorcycles still come with all magnetic drain plugs. Nothing will scew up motor parts like steel or sand in a motor. I would rather change my oil filter a couple of extra times and and keep my motor happy. THUNDER
