For the canadians is the sport worth the xtra $4000+?
Well NOW all the bases must be covered! I didn't cost out insurance for an LX (DX was never a consideration due to lack of cruise control and I hated the look of black mirrors/handles) vs. my Sport but I'm sure it would be a tad higher...
Yeah. My insurance company asked me if I had the Sport model. When I said no, they said "Oh. You get a lower rate for the non Sport".
NOW we do with the added cost of insurance for a Sport! On the ball we Canucks are, on the ball!
Good choice in model/color! Mind you, I have seen the '09 in ALL colors (minus blackberry) and it looks great in any one of them.

Wow, I didn't realize the base Fit included power windows. That certainly isn't the case with most cars, and it makes a difference because roll-up windows are a P.I.T.A.
As for insurance on the Sport, that could certainly be a factor for younger drivers, or for any drivers with recent at-fault claims. For me, I'm only paying about $1200 per year for just about every conceivable coverage feature available so it's a non-issue.
None of the Sport options do anything to increase performance. But for what you do get (if you want those options) it was certainly worth the extra $4515 (ie: $4300 plus 5% GST in Alberta) vs. the DX without A/C to me. The nice mags, fog lights, USB port/6-speaker 200W sound system, cruise, alarm, air cond, heated mirrors and leather steering wheel are nice to have. The stabilizer bars, chrome exhaust tip and body skirts are neither here nor there.

I bought the sport because:
1. I knew i wasn't going to do much (if any) aftermarket mods
2. Sport looked better than the DX (something about mirrors that don't match the body color that bugs me)
3. I like the bigger wheels, and the ipod adapter

LOL. Nope. But on the other hand, decent aftermarket 16" wheels shouldn't be hard to find. Besides, those LX mags can be used as expendable winter tire rims.
, not evening minding that they are just wheel covers, but they said it will cost me extra. So that's why I go with white....it doesn't look too bad with the chrome wheels.....and I keep thinking to myself that they are from hybrids and they are designed to make the car more fuel efficient......that makes me feel a little better each day
I've never heard of insurance companies considering color when adjusting premiums either. But I think we've all heard the statistic about cops pulling over and issuing more speeding tickets to those driving red cars than to those driving any other shade.
Either cops like to bust drivers of red cars, or an alarming percentage of those choosing red are predisposed to having a lead foot. I suspect the latter.

I bought a milano red DX (Base) model in Winnipeg. It's great. I just didn't feel that it was worth it to pay thousands more for extra features when the car itself is pretty much the same. It's different for everyone though. One person needs one thing while another doesn't. One wants one colour while another wants something else. I'm weird I suppose because I NEVER use air conditioning. I hate it. You turn it on and it burns more gas and makes the car struggle. So my Fit doesn't have air conditioning and I'm fine with that.
One thing I wish it did have is power door locks with remote entry. I came from a Civic that had that so it's taking me a while to get used to actually using the key to lock the door. And now I have to run around the car making sure each door is locked. But I can deal with it. The power windows are nice. That is not something I had before.
But... if I had to choose between one or the other on the base model, I would choose the power doors over power windows. I could roll down the windows no problem in the summer (it's a small car and I can reach to the other side because I'm fit - hehe...). Power doors are used year round and make getting in and out that much easier. Plus, it's safer with the Panic Button. Since I got my car, I haven't rolled down the windows even once, but I have gotten in and out, opened the hatch, unlocked the back doors, etc. To me, power doors are more of a necessity for safety concerns and ease of use over power windows which is more of a luxury feature. But, to each their own!

I don't see why insurance would be higher other than the fact that the sport costs more...like it was mentioned, there is nothing performance wise that makes the fit more costly to insure.
As for if the Sport is actually worth it...I personally went with the sport 'cause I can't stand the light-alloy rims from the civic, and I think the Fit looks silly without a spoiler. A lot of the convenience features such as AC and remote entry + alarm were also selling factors for me, and when I added in the features I wanted for the DX or LX, it just made sense to get the sport with everything already there.
Oh yeah, for AC....AC technology's come a long way, as far as implementation into the car. From what I've read, they're A LOT more efficient now, so they don't put nearly as much strain as they did back in the day. If you actually did a test, you probably wouldn't notice a huge MPG difference with it on almost all the time....at least I don't think you would =p

i went with the sport because it looks better and i am long past my days of wanting to put aftermarket junk all over my car, i use it to drive around (occasionally quite spirited) and enjoy the fact that my warranty is intact. i used to race cars and still have them so if i need to tinker it will be with them not the dd. the people that want to mod their cars are more than welcome to, we have all done that, it's kind of a right of passage, but to most of us(once you reach a certain age) it's just a car, cool and sporty in its way, but just a car.
