so i have 2200 miles on my 2009 tw fit sport auto, and the maintenance reminder says i am at 90%
what in the world?
shouldnt it say maybe 60% or less? weird.
i dont go by this thing for my service interval, and was planning the first oil change at around 3500 miles, but on my honda pilot the reminder was way more accurate.
has anyone else noticed this reminder being nuts?

 

all of our cars are doing the same thing. according to honda, you should hold tight.

 

yep hang on, the manual even states you may not need to change your oil more than once a year.

 

No offense, but WOW. I would never wait that long. Everybody's driving habits are different.

I drove 17,400 miles in ten months with my '08 Fit Sport. There was no way I was gonna wait a year to change the oil. Whether Honda recommended it or not.

 

Meow! that's great news! why would anyone wants to change oil? I wish I never have to change anything! Honda rocks!

 

yeah i am definitely not waiting a year! holy crap! 2200 miles in a month= 24000/year! that would be some funky oil by the end of that year.
oh and a burned up engine...
that is weird though that the reminder is a bunk...

im going by the manual/gauge
mine is at 80%/3700mi, im guessing that it will start going down more quickly and that around 8,000-10,000mi it will be near 10%
ill be sending a sample of oil in to blackstone labs at that point for analysis --->mythbuster style

 

there are no opinions. only fact.

and the fact is that your maintenence minder will say different times for everyone, there is no '5k' or '10k' service intervals.


follow the manual, you will be fine. and for those of you who are like' DEAR GOD! HOW CAN ANYONE WAIT THAT LONG?!!!', chill and just do what you are told.

I'm at about 3400 miles and the MM says 80%, it all depends on how you drive your car. I think the old stigma of changing your oil every so many miles no matter how much wear and tear you put on your car is out the window.

 

On my 07 it did go down more quickly after a certain milage. I trust Honda to know what they are doing. Will you post the results of your Blackstone labs sample?

 

If its anything like my Civic, the maintenance minder is not linear. You should see a significant decrease in percentage in the next 2-3000 miles.

 

How do you know the Fit reminder is not accurate? Why do you assume it is 'nuts'?

Also, I don't think oil degrades linearly with mileage/time. So I wouldn't extrapolate to 22k+ miles for your first change.

Like someone else has stated, why do an oil change any sooner than you have to? Maybe I'm just cheap....

When I bought my '09 I was told NOT to change my oil for the first time before the mainenance minder indicator said to do so. I was told there are added chemicals in the orginal oil that help with engine break in. It also says this in your owner's manual.

 

New oil vs. black oil. Hmm.

As soon as my oil turns black or anywhere close to it, Ima changin'. That's just the kinda guy I am.

 

In the break-in section, it specifically says not to do the first oil change until it tells you to. So I'm sure there's a good reason.

One of the reason I chose Honda is because it's so reliable and low-maintenance. I am spending all my free time on this freak site I don't have any time to waste on my car. If I have to wait for 100,000 miles to change anything I will. Less is more (more time on this freakin' site. LOL)

 

Somehow, I don't think we'll ever see "lifetime factory fill oil" anytime soon!
