tnx for the reply chief, by now im reading an avg of 10 to 10.5km/l. my odometer is already above 5th km. i'll be trying to compute it manually, yeah i heard the guage is not accurate. i didnt opt for the 1.3 because the 1.5 variant bumpers were more handsome, had bigger rims, and to add the paddle shifters caught my attention.

3 tanks so far in my 2009 Sport AT, 38, 39, and 36. This was mostly highway. The 36 tank included highway stretches going too fast (70-75mph). The 39 tank was using mild hypermiling techniques. I can easily get over 40mpg going 60mph on the highway part of my commute. That is what I'm doing on the current tank.

I posted this in another thread here but I have been getting an average in the high 40's. I broke 50 last week for the first time. I haven't checked a full tank for total mileage yet because I typically re-set my trip meter every time I set out. This weekend I had 423 miles on it and still had just slightly less than 1/4 tank left. Last night on my trip I got 47.6 for 174 miles. There was one time about a month ago I figured I had over 500 but didn't pay that much attention. I drive 348 miles to and from work which leaves me about 3/8ths of a tank left. With my average in the upper 40's I should really get over 500 per tank consistantly.

2009 Honda Fit AT

I have inflated the tires from recommended 33 psi to about 38-40 psi for about 1.5 months. It has gone up from about 32-35 mpg to 36-39 mpg. Of course, I did the calculation myself since the mpg meter is always 10-15% higher. I drive about 25% city and 75% highways. I think I may try to inflate the tires a little more.

Hi pcs0snq,
you can install a Scanguage and get accurate MPG off the OBD II connector. I don't understand why a company as brilliant as Honda offers an MPG guage that appears to be so far off and no one has complained about it. There seems to be little interest in this technical enigma. MPG is my main reason for buying a new car in this genre.

You could look at thetruthaboutcars.com for realistic MPGs. I did before I bought my 2009 Sport AT. This site suggests that 40-41 MPG is possible with the AT. With my skill I should be able to get 45 driving a long open road trip.

Does a Scanbridge report erroneous MPG too? Does the OBD II lie?

2009 MPG versus other years? AT vs MT? Base vs Sport? I just want to know.

I'm getting about 33 MPG driving to work, car has less than 1200 mi.

A Scangauge should be calculating mpg the same way as the Fit's gauge is, shouldn't it? I've got one and used it last summer on my SAAB but that was b/c I didn't have an instant mpg gauge on it, just resettable average. The SAAB's gauge was a bit off, too. Although I don't think it was the same percentage. There was never a "fix" for it. Although, with a parent company like GM, no one really expected one. Which newer Hondas have trip mpg gauges? Perhaps someone can mine the Honda TSB's and see if there is something there addressing it? I had bad/good luck with my 2002 CR-V initial survey. My only complaint was the auto trans was a 4 speed. Next thing you know, 5 speeds!

Food for thought...If you have a scangauge and a TomTom or Garmin, check the vehicle speed with both. GPS is usually dead accurate vs. wheel/abs sensor data. If they don't match, that's probably one issue right there. I know at 32 psi, my gps indicated I was running about 1-2 mph slower than my speedo indicated. I inflated to about 42 and now they seem to match up perfectly. Wonder if this will help?

Oh, and I'd also point out that the Scangauge derived speed info was also off from the speedo in my SAAB, though not as much. But I'd always go by GPS b/c I've heard it is much more accurate...

Just got an 09 sport - manual. first full tank reading 39.86 mpg, on board guage reads 48.6 wtf. Been very light on the gas, happy to be getting well over EPA, but was hoping for 40 something.

I recently took a small road trip in my 2009 AT sport. All highway, ac on sometimes, windows down sometimes, avg of 65 mph with cruise on.

The odometer peaked at 46.5 and settled around 46.2 when i was done, weighing in at 41 mpg calculated. No p&g was used. PSI = 45. I normally avg 37 calculated.

So yea if you used p&g, and shut off the air you could get low 50's easy on a road trip.

Its good to see when you subtract out the stop and go of the real world that the fit is based on good engineering. Its an efficient engine.

Impressive number BlackUp. I just bought an MT '09 Fit and am re-learning how to drive for fuel efficiency. Could you please be more specific about coasting? Clutch up, in neutral? Clutch in, transmission disengaged? Engine on or off? I am trying to learn to coast for better mileage, but am finding that different people define coasting differently.

BTW is it bad for a car to coast with clutch in, transmission disengaged? Clutch wear, etc? Thanks.

340 miles on mostly highway miles...and 10% city....still had room to go...but filled it up anyway...2009 Honda Fit Sport...5spd Automatic...luv the car!
i probably could have squeezed 350-360 out of it yet..lol...but thats unreal mileage.
I agree putting 41-45lbs of air in the tires..mine is at 41-42 right now

I was driving my 2009 Honda Fit Sport M/T. After 115.2 miles in the mountains, I burned 2.091 gallons and it averaged out at 55.0933 MPG and 204% of the EPA average city driving. I'm running 0w20 Mobil 1 full synthetic and 60 PSI tires. The tank was topped to the brim both fill ups at the same pump at the same gas station.

I didn't keep my gas records for the first month i was driving the fit. I've kept my fuel records for the last month, and I am going to be tracking them on ecomodder.com

MPG is based of the miles driven divided by the amount of gas added (full tank method). I have 4 different "modes" of driving: hypermiler, relaxed, normal, and sporty. Numbers are based of 80-90% city / 10-20% highway max. I live in Houston, Texas so the a/c has been on all the time except for the last week.

Oh and I spoke with the service manager at the dealership and they say that "normal" for the gauge is 5mpg +/- either way, and to be concerned if it reads 10+/- off actual. I gotten 1 tank so far with a 6mpg deviation as the worse on the gauge, It read 39.1mpg on the previos tank, with 35.79 actual mpg, the next tank I get 40.0mpg on the gauge, and get 33.94 actual... WTF?

2009-11-17 - 292.1 mi. / 8.440 US gal = 34.61MPG - OEM Fuel Gauge: 35.9 @ $2.399
2009-11-09 - 290.7 mi. / 9.555 US gal = 30.42MPG - OEM Fuel Gauge: 35.1 @ $2.459
2009-11-02 - 289.1 mi. / 9.019 US gal = 32.05MPG - OEM Fuel Gauge: 36.0 @ $2.439
2009-10-28 - 289.8 mi. / 8.538 US gal = 33.94MPG - OEM Fuel Gauge: 40.0 @ $2.489
2009-10-21 - 314.2 mi. / 8.779 US gal = 35.79MPG - OEM Fuel Gauge: 39.3 @ $2.449
2009-10-15 - 269.0 mi. / 8.993 US gal = 29.91MPG - OEM Fuel Gauge: ??.? @ $2.279

Was so close to finally breaking 40 MPG. Last 40 miles was where I ran into heavy highway traffic during a light drizzle which promptly dropped the average to 39.55 MPG. Maybe next time...

Out of curiosity, what's the maximum safe inflation pressure listed on the tire sidewall?
