Nav System

Hello. I'm new here and thinking about purchasing an 90 Fit Sport with Nav. I have a couple of questions, if the board would be so kind as to help me out.

How does Honda's nav system work ... meaning, is it a one-time cost at the time the vehicle is purchased, or does it require a monthly/yearly subscription fee such as is required for satellite radio in order for it to remain operational ?

Also, I live in NE Pennsylvania and commute into the higher elevations of the Pocono Mountains on a regular basis. The Fit Sport with nav I'm considering comes with stability control, which I'm sure will help. However, I'm still concerned with how the vehicle will do in wintery conditions with the stock all-season tires. (Would prefer to not be switching out tires each fall/winter, if possible.) Can anyone provide any insight in this regard ? Thanks.

Can only tell you about the NAV...after purchase, there is no monthly or ongoing fee for the satellite service. GPS satellites are free to use.

The only potential fee is for updated maps and points of interest from Honda which come out from time to time. If you choose to upgrade you purchase the DVD from Honda, but nothing is forcing you to do that...ever.

For the nav updates, Honda comes out with a new DVD with updated maps and POIs about every fall. They cost around $200 though.

Wow $200 bucks?! I better stop complaining every year when I pay $60 to upgrade the maps on my Garmin. But then I think the Garmin update is strictly Maps and no POI updates.

I have an 09 Fit Sport with Nav. I LOVE it. Two things the nav does NOT included (and I didn't care as I will NEVER pay for radio, and don't care about bluetooth)

But it isn’t available with Sat radio, and isn’t available with Bluetooth.

I don’t know where in NE PA you are, but I will be in Selinsgrove for 3 days starting tomorrow. If you are in the area and wanna check it out, just let me know. J

Also, the day AFTER I bought my Fit we got about 2-3 inches of snow, with the VSC the car did GREAT. Now I know that’s not a lot of snow, but it was a good first test.

Hope this helps.
