I'm running 195/50r16 yokohama AVS winters on my stock rims and it's good. No problems at all. As you go to a wider tire you have to decrease your sidewall.

195's will work just fine but like GD3 said, I'd go 205/45

I guess my question is don't you have to keep the same diameter overall as the stock to keep the odometer working correctly? I can see moving to 50 or 45 series side wall on a 17” rim.

on the gd3, the stock sport tire size was 195/55/r15. slapping oem 16's on it came with a honda reccomended 205/45/r16 size. if you have to follow those rules, you would have to run like a 40 sidewall to do a 205 width tire on the new fit. i absolutely hate the stock tire size. it limits the cars abilities so much.

From my research on tirerack 205/55-16 has the most tire options. 205/50-16 has much less choices.

Those tires will most likely be too tall. You would need 45 series, you may be able to squeeze 50 series. My dad is using 205/50/16 on his lowered 95 Integra without any issues.

The stock Fit sport wheels uses 185/55-16. Why wouldn't it fit?

205/55 will be quite a bit taller and you may have rubbing issues.

Because the second number is the profile. It's 55% of the width.

185 and 205 will have different sidewall height. 55% of 205 will be too tall.

Use a lower profile number when going to a wider tire.

Glad to be of help.

Btw, the first number is the width in mm and the last number is the rim diameter in inches. Both metric and SAE systems used. Go figure.

......

The Sport uses 185/55 x 16. The 50 series 195/50 x 16 is a wider tire with a lower profile. Because of a slightly lower total radius, they would cause the engine to spin about 1.4% faster at any given highway speed. Example: less than 1 mph error at indicated 60 mph. That error is small enough to not be a consideration. I would want to be sure that the wider tire would still fit on the OEM wheel.

From what Virtual explained the 50 series side wall will be perfect for a 195 tire.
