Key code tag???

It says in my owner's manual that I should have gotten a very important key code tag with my keys. That if I ever lost my keys, I would need that tag to get a new key. I did not get any key code tag.

Did everyone get one, except me?

Or is this a brilliant trick by dealers to make us pay for some expensive test or gadget or new locks because we don't have the very important key code tag?

With my two keys, i received a little metal tag on the ring that had the "code" of my keys' cut, if i were ever to lose both keys. I actually heard the sales man say, "we ACTUALLY have both keys for you, let me get the other one, which i think has the key tag on it."

I think as long as you have a key, you'll be fine.

THE KEY TAG REALLY DOESNT MATTER
the dealer can make you a key just by the vin and your proof of ownership

but don't wait till you loose your last key to decide you need another one, because you'll need to tow it to a dealer or a authorized locksmith and then pay for keys and programming

Ya, got mine, but dealer also recorded by Shop Manager just in case. Probably yours did too or thats where your tag went.

Dork! LOL!

Guess what? I have it. You know those paper temporary tags that dealers use to write down what keys go to what car? The key code thing was on the spare keys ring, with that temporary tag, kind of stuck to it. With the back of the tag pointing out. which is just blank. It LOOKED like it was just the temporary paper tag.

So, it was there, I was mistaken. I'll write down the number on the tag too, on my sales slip.
