Be careful opening that hatch!
Be careful opening that hatch!
So the only hatch I'm really used to is the one on my wife's Prius, and it doesn't really swing out that far when you open it. Well, the one on the Fit sure does, and I found out the hard way. We took it to get groceries last night, and me, being a complete dumbass, just swung the hatch quickly open when the shopping cart was just a little too close to it. Now I have a nice ding in the bottom right corner of my hatch door. Do they have touch up paint in BSP yet? I'm really mad that I did this to my first new car so soon. Here are the pics. It didn't look that bad when it was darker. It looked like it had only taken clear coat off, but my camera flash clearly shows that it's down to the metal.

Ouch!!.. Cart 1 Fit 0 .... and they do make the touch up paint in your color... they had it at the dealer I was at yesterday...

I did the same thing the first day I had mine...was loading my mountain bike in and experimenting with all the different loading options. I think I caught the pedal on it, took a nice deep chip out of the corner near the rear bumper where the hatchback sits closed.
It was kind of funny though...I have this "thing" where the first day I get a new car I damage it. My Cougar I scratched the whole front bumper on one of those yellow posts by the gas pumps on the first day (the car had a big front end
). Then my first stop in the Avalon was a Taco Bell with parking spaces set down hill with a nice, high sidewalk at the end (scrrrape - it actually got mostly visible areas of the front bumper, it sucked) and of course the first day with the Fit I chipped the paint with my bike.
At least I can feal "normal" now with it, don't have to be all paranoid and touchy...

First one is the worst. Touch it up, relax, and enjoy the car.
Experts here can correct me, but I always heard that touch-up paint works better if you warm it a little before applying it.
Good lesson on the hatch, though. I'll remember that (I hope). I can make plenty of mistakes on my own without repeating others'.
Cheers!

Sorry to hear about the cart and hatch - it is an easy thing to do. Go to the dealership and they will hook you up with touch up paint. My dealership had to order MR for me and gave it to me for free - they rock!
I had a new insulated garage door put on before winter because the old one was junk and could not be unlocked
from the outside. The new one is great and the lock works super but when I raise the hatch it is within inches of the new door when it is fully raised. I open it very slowly and make sure it doesn't get bumped.

Not that I've done anything like that...
If there was ever a place for the trim, invisible or not, that hatch edge is just as important as the door edges.
Personally, I'm not quite sure where to put my hands on the hatch to close it. On the edge? On the logo?
lol i too thought it would be able hitting yourself
and umm... yea not like i did that on the first day i got the car either
to close it, there's a handle inside
don't mess with the paint! lol
btw, it's a chip that some touchup paint should help
it's not a ding, but still hurts

I use the handle inside. Just step to the right side of hatch when lowering.
Knowing me, it will be another head-smacking opportunity!

Go to Honda Fit Accessories - Genuine Factory Honda Accessories, made by Honda for your Honda.
Got some touch up paint there and they are reliable.

I wonder if that "clear door edge guard" tape, whatever it is, would be worthwhile trying on the hatch edge?
Or if there is some kind of generic trim that could be placed just on the edge? Anyone with experience have ideas on that?
haha yah spoon rep spoiler and spoon antenna but still hits =( OMGOSH i jsut had a dejavu =P LOL! but yah =)
