Mine rattled intermittently also, and it drove me nuts when it did it. Finally realized that the rattle would stop if some gentle pressure was placed on the upper corners of the lower glovebox. So a couple weeks ago I got a roll of self-adhesive high-density foam weatherstrip at Lowes and put a couple strips along each edge of the glovebox cover. The foam is 1/4 inch thick and 1/2 inch wide. So far, so good. I have not heard the rattle since adding the foam strips.

I realized the same thing- gentle pressure on the "lip" along the left side of the lower glove box stops it. I also stuck some foam in there- I happened to use a piece of 1/4" thick foam that came out of a waterproof electrical outlet cover, of all things. Somebody at work had broken the cover off of an outlet and we were throwing it out, so I thought "what the heck". . . So far, it works!

my rattle just came back today again. By "lip", do you mean the edge that goes front to back or left to right?

I put two strips of foam on each side, from front to back (or top to bottom, depending on how you look at it). Not from left to right. Mine is still good.

I was thinking of the big "lip" on the left hand side, the one that's a couple inches wide and goes top to bottom (or front to back).

any chances that Honda will send a recall on those glove box???mine is just driving me nuts!!!!!Did a 4h30 drive from Montreal to St-georges- de-Beauce in Quebec,at -15 to -20 deg celsius, and believe me,it was worst than ever!!!!I'll check with my local dealer if they can fix that, and pass it i=on warranty, cuz there is no reason a 10 000Km(around 6000 miles)car has rattle like that.I remember, back in '99,i had an old VW rabbit GTI,and it was like a new car, never heard any noise or rattle in that car.Anyway, still i love my fit,and wouldn't trade it for another car

I hit the 100 mile mark on my new Fit this morning on the way to work (I just picked it up on Tuesday), and my glove box rattled up a storm for the whole drive. It was only about 15 degrees this morning, and Michigan roads aren't exactly smooth, so I'm sure that had something to do with it, but still, it seemed kind of ridiculous for a new car with 100 miles on odometer.

this does the trick. You can get these things at a hardware store in the aisle with the assorted hardware in bins(screws, nuts, bolts, etc). In one of the pics, you can see the bump stop sits a little past the factory one. Giving the glove box lid slight pressure so it will not rattle. IMO this is the easist, cheapest and cleanest way to go!

I gotta chime in and warn that this may not be the fix for your rattle. There are tons of rattles in our cars. My glove box had a few rattles alone, but the most annoying came from within the latch mechanism which they couldn't open up. Hence they replaced the entire glove box and voila...no more noise.

I've been driving with my glovebox open all spring, as I mostly drive solo on my commute. But now that the summer's here I have passengers and it's becoming embarrassing driving with the glovebox closed and the rattle doing its thing. I was at the dealership (Potamkin in NY) for the car's first oil change today, and they made a half-hearted and unsuccessful attempt to fix the problem. I'm kicking up a fuss with them and hope to get them to fix the problem, but in the meantime how have the various fixes suggested above worked out? Do those bump-ons solve the problem over the long term? And how about that replacement glovebox--is it still rattle-free? Thanks, and enjoy the weekend!

Mine started at about mile 600. Only if it's cold. By cold I mean when the engine thinks it's cold. I turn on the heat on floor vent, and the heat helps.

It is VERY annoying.

Like I stated in a previous post, since I had my glove box replaced, I have no noise from there. I still have a rattle from somewhere near that area, but I don't think it's coming from the box.

Mine has been rattle-free since I put the foam weatherstrip on both edges of the lid.

Same here. It has worked very well on mine since I did it about a month ago.

Could you guys post pictures of your solution? a picture is worth a thousand words. I've tried placing a thin felt pad in various places but either it's too thin or I haven't narrowed down exactly where it's rattling, it comes and goes still.

Mine was in the latch assembly which Honda could not open to fix, so they ordered a new glove box. Rattles gone.

After 6 months Rattle still going strong!!!

I started this thread a few months ago...and just wanted to say that the rattle is just as annoying today as it was in November when I got the car. I know its not going to fix itself. I would like to bring it in to the dealer to have them swap out the glove box, but seeing that my dealer messed my car up the first time I brought it to them for another issue, I'll probably try and figure it out myself or just adjust it with a sledgehammer.

My experience with the dealer has pissed me off so much that I think about selling my car and getting one that hasn't been molested. Then I will easily be out $2000 or so, plus have to pay sales tax again, so that is pretty much out of the question. I basically need $500 worth or dash parts to make it mint again, plus the labor to have it done by someone that has a clue and can do a professional job.
