How easy is it to take on and off? I only hit the slopes during the weekends and don't really want to have the roofrack on daily commutes. I remember you said it took a few hours to install, but that was just the first time, right?

I really want a rack. Keeping the board in the back has scuffed up one of my doorhandles. But it's also so darn expensive.

Once you have all the measurements down and have assembled the rack together its pretty easy to take on and off. I was planning on putting some tape in the door opening to mark where the feet are so I can easily take them on and off with out having to measure everything all over again.

Yup. We saw you pass by. We tried waving at you, but had no luck. Try to stop by next Thursday night if you have time.

FYI, I've had the rack on my car for about a week now. I've used this rack on various cars ever since the early '90's (had different towers then). I've always had issues with noise, but I just put up with it. This is the first time I've had the deflector on it, and I'm very surprised at how little noise the rack generates now. My commute includes sections where I'm going 75 mph, it really doesn't add to the noise much.

Today I carried a dresser on top, so I took the fairing off. Oh my God! Incredibly noisy without a fairing.

How easy are the racks to install and do they mar the surface in anyway?

The clips come with new pads and vinyl protectant tape that you put at the contact points of the clips. In general, if you do it right, no marring. If you want to be 100% sure, go with the Xpel tape a guy earlier in this thread showed using where the tower pads contact the paint. Install is easy, you just pull the measurements down from Yakima's site, set the tower separation on the poles, and install in the locations Yakima specifies on the roof, then add your accessories. Make sure you get the fairing, I had never had one before until I did this install, it makes a huge difference. I can't even hear the rack on the freeway.

Wow, that looks really cool! I can't wait to get mine installed.
I've got a black '09 Sport and I'm thinking about a Thule rack, but the fitments aren't out yet.

What size fairing are you using? the 44" because I have the old school fairing, and it totally scraped up my paint. I am looking to replace it and was just wondering what size you went with.

I just got a basket for my yakima and have the 44" fairing. about to offload it onto eBay if anyone is interested. With the basket you use the fairing that's built into the basket because there's not enough room (height wise) to attach the rack fairing. The fairing is only about 4 months old and in great shape if anyone who's installed a yakima is interested. I think the thing is about $55-$69 new, depending on where you get it (web or store). I'll let it go for $30.

Ive been following this thread and the Stuff needed for a GE is as follows:

4x Q Towers 8000124
2x 48" Crossbars 8000428
2x Front Q99 Clips 8000699
2X Rear Q99 Clips 8000699

So a little insight into the matter. Above is everything needed for the rack essentials. below are some good additional items.

44" Fairing 8007048
4X Keylocks 8007204

A side note. I plugged all these into Amazon and came up with a slightly lower price then rackattack and a couple other specialty places. I suggest all of you do what I did and look on craigslist for parts that you can get cheaper. I found 2 48" Bars on craigs for 25 bucks. When retail is 70. So I saved 50 bucks there. Also looking into a fairing, and whatever else pops up on there. The rest I will order off of Amazon and have my set for a lot cheaper! Goodluck to all I am going to try the paint protection thing on this thread. Think it will help out a lot!
