My back, knees and right shoulder are all messed up and I am a rather large guy as well... One thing that my wife and I both have noticed about the Fit is that I am able to get in and out of it with ease.... Active explosive armor and warning signs would be the best bet for deterring door dings.

Thumbs down

Got mine replaced under warranty too. These door armrest clearly aren't designed to hold much weight.

Thanks for the heads-up on the armrests. Mine haven't imploded yet, but it's something to watch for.

Mine did it yesterday. I work on a military base and had to show my ID at the gate, reached for my wallet and crack! It's not like a put a lot of weight on it, just kind of shifted towards the door slightly.

It looks pretty much like the first picture. Kind of a square looking break. I'll talk to the dealer on Monday about it.

Both of my front door panels had this happen - took the car in to the dealer for a problem with the driver's lock actuator and had them check the panels as well (and had the update for the MPG display).

Everything was repaired/replaced under warranty - not sure if I've just been easier on the panels, or if maybe they beefed them up, but so far neither has had a repeat of the cracking.

It looks like the GD-3s have one thing going for it the GE-8s don't... I don't think there has been a rash of busted arm rest on the GDs

While it is aggravating that it happens in the first place, it should be noted that Honda is choosing the high road and replacing them without questions asked, and for free. Ive never had that luxury when we were driving our "premium" cars (mercedes, bmw, volkswagen).

As others have said, the Fit is an economy car. Economical to build and sell, and economical to drive and maintain. But it is a very good one, solid and simple.
