According to Car and Driver, they both reached 60 in 8.5 secs.

..

I will second those comments. There are only about 80 MINI dealers in the whole country. We had actually put a deposit down on a MINI, which would have involved using a dealer about 100+ miles from our home; the second nearest was about 125+ miles away. We took back our deposit, because the dealer was unreasonable, and stubborn, about lease rates. The lack of trust made it impossible to agree to use them.
In retrospect,I am quite glad we got the Fit. Our local Honda dealer is quite good (prior S2000 long term experience with them), but if I didn't like them, there are reasonable alternates within reasonable driving distance.

Mod for performance? hrmm.. I would think the fit(havnt really looked at performance mods for the fit yet) compared to the base MINI, then again most people wouldnt mod the base MINI just for the fact for the money you add to mod the base model would be better to get the copper S which more power already and mod that.

every car has it's problems
it all depends on how the driver treats the car
people do some stupid shit

i've read about a few of the issues and it seems like there's always a TSB or there's some sort of aftermarket mod to prevent the problem.

i understand you have experience with the car but you can't say stay away from the mini. it's a great car. of all people you should know how well they handle and kick ass straight out of the dealership.
don't let one person's opinion bother you guys.

just fyi i'm selling my fit for a mcs and i won't miss the extra cargo space or the fit in general.
i figure the mcs will keep me busy for a while until i get another s2000
