Blacked out emblems

quick questions before i go buy the paint and clearcoat,

is it easy to pull the emblems off without breaking them? what do i need to do?

and as for the emblems, is it ok to to just slap the paint on them or would i need to rough the finish up a bit on the emblems?

thanks in advance guys

the front is easy to remove if you take off the grille, the rear will require some effort to get off easily.

Yes you need to scuff the chrome on them before you paint.

I put the JDM emblems on, and had to clip the emblems to get them off. To my knowledge, there's no way of taking them off without clipping.

Why dont you clip them, paint them, then put some adhesive and stick them back on?

Search man. There's a thread on here for installing the JDM emblems. It has instructions to remove the factory emblem.

But in all honesty, if you can get a really slim flat head, something like the ones you use to fix glasses, then with a little strength you would be able to slip the grommets off of the emblems' clips.

When I replaced the horn and painted my headlights i had to remove the bumper and painted my front emblem then. I didn't remove it just masked it off with painters tape and a roll of brown painters paper (for covering the floor when you're painting in the house. Haven't done the rear yet because I haven't had time but the front turned out awesome.

I scuffed up the emblem, used the same adhesion promoter (autozone) that was recommended for painting the headlights and some krylon flat black paint. I also used a matte clear coat I purchased at Lowes (I believe it was a Valspar product). No chips and or dings. Followed the directions on the back of the adhesion promoter can, 3 or 4 light coats of flat black paint and one good coat of matte clear coat.

To do the rear I think I'm just going to remove the rear garnish piece the emblem is attached to and mask it off and then put the garnish piece back on. Good luck though.

use a expired credit card and or something when peeling it of so you don't scratch the paint, some use hair dryer or heatgun but i always get away using CC
