DIY: blackout emblem
Materials needed:
- one can of gloss black spray paint from home hardware or Rona or any hardware store. Do not go to Canadian tire as I find they are more expensive. You can buy any type of paint, ie Rust Paint, Paint specially for plastic or general paint.
- a lot of newspaper and 1 piece of paper
- detergent mixed water and rubbing alcohol
- lint free clean wipes
-masking tape
- and most important, patience
Instruction:
1) as the H logo is not glued on, simply slide the masking tape into the edges of the emblem between the grill and the emblem. Make sure the entire outer perimeter of the H is taped.
2) again because the H logo is not glued on, slide two pieces of paper between the H and the grill, one from the top and one from the bottom
3) apply newspaper to the entire front end of the car to prevent paint dust from seeping to ur car's paint, and use masking tape to tape all edges of newspaper together. I didn't tape all the edges and thus i had paint dust left on my white bumper. To clean it off, simply use liquid wax.
4) use detergent water to wipe down the emblem. After its dry, use rubbing alcohol to wipe it again before painting.
5) use lint free clean wipes to wipe down the emblem to minimize dust. I had a couple small dust spots, this is not preventable.
6) once all the prep is done, spray paint from 1 foot away. Apply three to four layers of paint between 30 mins interval. Make sure each layer is thin as you do not want run offs.
7) let the paint dry for at least 10 hours and finally remove newspapers
8) OPTIONAL: spray a layer of clear coat on it after it is completely dry. But I would not suggest it because most clearcoat that is available is not completely clear and will hinder the glossiness of ur emblem.
9) sit back, relax, and admire
