Call Me Crazy, BUT.....
I really wanna rip out the dash!
Just finished taking apart the interior to sound deaden it and would like better access to the firewall to really reduce engine noise. I really don't know where to start with the dash.
I was hoping some fellow fitfreaks maybe had done this or at least had some drawings or a general idea where to start. I'm sure it would be a lot of work,I can handle that, but I really don't want to damage anything on my nice new car!

Don't know about you, but if you are having engine noise, then something must be wrong. I just drove home at 3 AM last night, no cars, no wind, nothing, and I didn't hear my engine at all. And this was for about 1 minute before the light finally turned green ;P

1FiTpINOY : Too funny!
CrystalFiveMT : I do like my music loud, but my primary goal for this install is to build an audiophile/SQ system so CLEAN is my number one priority, and that involves eliminating other sources of sound. But you are right, once I crank it up the engine won't be as big of an issue.
And as far as rattles are concerned.....let just say i'm taking preventative measures
most panels will get this treatment, any stray rattles will be hunted down with a vengence!

most likely wont get to the point where I attempt the dash until tomorrow evening, but could still use all the help I can get. I'm gonna prob end up spending a lot of time tonight researching and would love to save some time.. Anyways, back to work I go!

i doubt the engine noise will be your problem. its more like dash rattles that you will have to worry about. id say leave it for now and later down the road when your stuff starts to creek rip it out then

Thats pretty much right on the money, I have 199 pounds of material to work with. Theres gonna be some waste but then you add in the spray adhesive which feels pretty heavy in the cans and that gets you right back up to 200.
My next project might have to be stiffer springs or coilovers because i'm sure once I add the actual speakers, amps, and subwoofer I'll be pushing 350 pounds of added weight. I really don't want my handling to suffer more than it has to.

Get some lightweight wheels. They make the most noticable difference when reducing weight. People say losing 1lb of rotational mass is equal to 4lbs of the car. So if you get wheels that weigh 4lbs less than stock, that can be related to droping 60+lbs off the car. And stick with the coilovers
Looking forward to seeing how this will come out.

Damn dude you got balls, if I ripped out my interior like that I would have held no limitations and have Dynomat make me one huge custom fitted multi-layer deadening piece rather than so many little pieces--regardless, hope it's like a bentley in terms of noise when you are done with it.
