distance after .5 tank of gas
i wish the stupid computer would give just an estimate til we run outta gas. other cars like scion / nissan have this nice feature....i burn out gas faster after half a tank. the light kinda makes you wanna fill up but you have like 1-1.5gallons left
just an update. I'm on my 3rd tank of gas, approaching half a tank at 330 kms. 90% city driving. I probably rev it to 5K once every trip. Engine still needs to break in so I'm very easy on the car. The odo is reading 5.3L/100km. I do not think it'll get better than this. It was filled up at no 5 and steveston chevron.
Anyway on good days I can run 270-300 km before my fuel gauge rests its needle on the halfway mark. Fuel gauges are frustratingly non-linear though, so any expectations of making 600 km on a tank are VERY optimistic. The longest I've run is 460 km before I hit empty, but I run just shy of 400 km most of the time...I run my car mostly in the city.

Thats 44 mpg in USA.
BTW, those computers that tell you how many miles you have left are usually off also. Even the one in my Mercedes is pretty off on it's MPG estimate.
On my 160 mile round trip commute, I am facing strong headwinds and a gradual grade half the trip, and a strong tail wind and gradual down grade the other half. I get about 30mpg on the poor half and 45 on the better half.
My best half tank of gas (When the needle is at the halfway point, which isn't really half a tank) was 250 miles. I imagine on a straight rode trip on a level road, I could squeeze a lot more than that out of it.
My best full (9.9 gallons at the fillup afterward) tank thus far has been 431 miles. (computer read 48 mpg, was really 43.5)

WoW, some of you guys must be wicked hard on your Fits. Ever since new I have gotten no less then 35Mpg city, and have tapped 42Mpg highway several times. Even hauling 2 canoes on top I can still average 36-37 Mpg mixed driving. I only have 2700 miles on my Fit,so it will even get better. I get 190-220 miles to a 1/2 tank of mixed driving. Seen 260 miles of highway on a 1/2 tank on one occasion and that tank yielded 42.8 Mpg.
Have a question. How many of you guys skip 4th gear? If I am driving mostly flat areas I skip 4th,and go right to 5th at or around 35-40 Mph. I found skipping 4th keeps the mileage figures up there. Also driving highway if I am doing 70-75{like the rest of the crowd} my mileage drops to 39Mpg {self calculated} and if I stay at or below the 65 Mph posted I can hit 40's all the time. A guy at work has a 2009 Yaris 3 door, and I can beat his highway mileage . I am extremely happy with the gas mileage of my Fit 5spd manual.

Yeah, fuel gauges have never really been THAT accurate for me.
In my old civic, I'd get 200mpg on the first half, and 100mpg on the second half. It seemed like the gauge always bottlenecked me.
The Fit has been a lot better in this respect, however the way I drive the AVG MPG usually gives me around 40 per tank, but when I fill up, it's closer to mid 30's.
Back to the point of the thread, I get around 180mpg on the first half of the tank.

the computer readout of 5.3 is not accurate. Its more like 5.8 or 5.9 L per 100km.
halfway point is not half tank cux the lower half drops way faster. I just reached the halfway point of the gauge today and i'm at 380 km.
