Has anyone painted their alloys?

I have an GE sport SSM and I really like my alloys, i just wish they were a different color so they would pop a little more. I was thinking black but am open to suggestions. I am pretty broke, so if anybody knows the prices or some cheap ways to do it, let me know. If you painted yours and you have pictures, that would be great!

leave it stock...especially if you're broke cause the durability is
not going to match your OE wheels unless you powercoat them.

you can spray them with some duplicolor wheel paints but
chances are they will chip/pit and your stock silver color will
show through.

I was thinking about the powdercoat route but I am completely oblivious when it comes to pricing. For all I know, it could cost as much as new rims, but if its under $200, I'd consider it. I really want to mod my car! This forum is inspiring me!!!

To my knowledge, it'd cost the same to powdercoat as getting new rims. I've been debating on doing my rims myself too. Finally just decided they'll have to do until I can afford new rims.

We have painted dozens of wheels since 1989 with epoxy paint after thorough cleaning . Unfortunately none around at the moment but they did look great when the owners matched body to wheels.. Even striped some with reflective stipes. Light sanding was also beneficial before cleaning with solvent and thorough drying.

Powdercoating is pretty affordable. Just call around and get prices.

I've done it

https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/fit-...tml#post622161

$20 material, few hours time

Used duplicolor wheel coating. 2 months, no chips, scratches, etc. Cleaned abusively with a wire brush even!

And here it is with vinyl H's in the center caps

Those f*ers chipped and scratched the crap out of them with the brackets they have to put on there. Might have been this crappy place...but figured anyone would probably have the same results.
Never go to Bob Summeral.

I guess if you don't mine repainting then its not a big deal.

A little of both. Friends have done the same with no issues what-so-ever.

I wouldn't be surprised if I have to touch up the paint though.

Thankfully, the America's tire by my house always replaces the nylon guides before touching painted wheels, and on my last set of painted wheels, when they did manage to get them scratched, had them fixed too on their coin.

i only take my wheels (especially my 19" SSR's and BBS for my other cars)
to tire shops that have a Hunter TC3500 or TC325 mounter.

also RoadForce GSP9700/DSP9000 as far as balancing.

I use to work at a bike shop and they had to replace or refinish any wheel that got scratched or marked up. I would have been PISSED if that happened to me.

Spray can paint can work good, but don't expect it to last more than a year or so. Mine will have been painted for 2 years at the end of this summer and there's a lot of chipped paint. The first year was pretty much trouble free but after the first winter the quality will go down. I've been meaning to respray them but at this point they only have snow tires mounted to them so I don't really care since all they will see is winter usage it's not worth it.
