Broken glass :(

Hi all. I have a 6 mos old Black MT sport FIT 2009. To my surprise, I came out to my car this evening and found the passenger front window shattered. I don't see a rock in or outside of the car. Nothing was taken from the car. It was parked in a resident parking lot of my apt complex. A security guard suggested that the window could have shattered by itself due to the weather. I live in Long Island, NY. It was apparently hot during the day, it rained, and then it got hot again after the rain although it's quite cool right now about 60 outside. Has anyone ever heard of windows shattering from weather change?
Thanks.

sorry to hear... very doubtful. think about it. all the Fits in your area along with many other cars will have shattered glass if that was the case.

I had a cop come by and took a look. His explanation was much more plausible. It is likely the landscapers that may have caused a small pebble or rock to go flying at the window and making it shatter. Going to give them a call tomorrow....

Yes, it's possible the landscapers caused it. Certainly call and explain the situation and share as many facts as possible with them and see what they say. Honestly I really don't think they will own up to causing that, and legally I don't believe you have any recourse. Personally I really wouldn't put much heat on them; anything could have happened to that window. Just call your insurance company, file a claim, pay your deductible, and move on. Sorry that happened to you man!

I don't know what caused it, but one time, I got into the passenger seat of my brother's Accord, and when I shut the door (and not that hard), the entire rear window shattered.

What a bummer...you're in a tough spot really. Prolly no one's going to own up to being responsible and it'd be tough to prove who actually did it anyway. But I've never known glass to shatter on its own like that. Good luck tho.

It could be thugs checking for the wheel lock keys in the glove compartment. That's how they took my stock rims.

I'd suggest checking local glass auto shops for a quote. My old Civic had the same issue and it only costs less than $200 to get it replaced and cleaned. I didn't put through my insurance bc I'd be paying the $500 deductible.

Luckily I have glass coverage on the car so I didn't have to pay anything. Otherwise it would have been $190. Though I truly believe it was the landscapers, I can't get a hold of anyone to even talk to so I'm just moving on and hope it doesn't happen again.
