Question about my brand new m/t Fit

Test drove my m/t Sport today, and fell in in love! Incredibly awesome car, picking it up tomorrow!

Honestly my only concern was the clutch engagement height. It seems to be really high. In other words, while holding a steady RPM I feel no response until the last couple inches of (clutch pedal) travel. The car is brand new, only has 10 miles on it. I just don't wanna drive away with a car that was possibly abused by a previous test driver. I'll wait for a new one if I must.. Any other 2009 m/t buyers/owners experience any similar thoughts? Or am I just being too picky..?

Thx guys

on my MT fit sport...the clutch take up is pretty much half way from its highest point. i test drove MANY fit sports on dealer lots and they were all pretty much the same. i dont think the clutch will engage at like .5 inch.

honestly..even if the previous test driver redline every gear, it wouldnt mess up the clutch to the point where it loses half its grasp.

and btw, the clutch on the fit is REALLY nice. i came from a is300 and its clutch was HEAVY compare to the fit. i dont think you have anything to worry about

Yep the clutch really is THAT mushy. That's normal. All Fits, even the GDs, have the same soft clutch and easy engagement.

Enjoy your GE Post photos when it does come.

The Fit might have "Sport" in the name, but it's not a sports car. It has a high clutch just like a Civic or Corolla would.

isnt the 'engagement' of the clutch easily fixable, but having a mechanic adjust the clutch cable?

The Fit has a hydraulic actuated clutch, and some what subjective to temperature,or air in the system. You may have air in the system that needs purged. In colder weather you will find until it warms up the release distance may change some or force needed will vary due to the viscosity of the fluid and rubber parts inside the cylinders. Also check the smaller fluid tank next to the brake master tank for proper fluid amount{marked on side of tank}. Mine is mushy when hot and more firm in colder weather, but overall has a lighter feel clutch pressure compared to other cars its size. If I remember correctly when I looked at mine there is a small adjustment on the actuator rod at the transmission for some adjustment of clutch play or travel.

It's more likely that the clutch on this brand new Fit is exactly how it should be, and your assessment is simply not being used to how the Fit clutch engages. Put 100 miles on your new car, enjoy it, and I'm sure the clutch engagement will start to feel like second nature to you.

Thanks a bunch for all your feedback guys! I'm off to the dealer. Actually got another m/t to drive, just gonna quickly compare to two. I'm confident in Honda's craftsmanship, just need to make sure before signing my life away Can't wait to bring it home! I'll post some pics as soon as I get back.

Thanks again guys!

Clutch engagement improves as you run the car in. Mine had a very sudden take up that was pretty high, and vague until the clutch plate bedded in. If it doesn't improve by the the first service, get them to have a look at it.

What vehicle are you comparing it with?

I'm sure the feel of the hydraulic clutch is different than what most people are used to.
