Seats down/bench up- what's your pleasure?

These seats are magic for sure! I got the Fit for the hatchback but wouldn't you know, I find the benches up to be really useful a lot of the time. I often choose benches up. I find it easier on my back getting things in and out. Don't get me wrong, when it's necessary I use the hatch with seats down and it's great. Today I used the benches up and the default cargo space in the back and I was amazed at how much I fit in the Fit. A LOT of music gear. My bandmates were amazed too, but if they think I'm carrying the PA now, they have another thing coming! Our piano player has a 2004 Civic and he was taken aback by the fit. Needless to say, he's thinking seriously about a trade-in now, for the Fit.

What do you all seem to use most?

Dan

I used to have the seats folded up (tall mode) so that the they would catch less dirt/lint. But I stopped and just have it in normal passenger mode. I am paranoid that someone would smash my window to see what's in the magic pocket. I put nothing valuable inside my car but having the seat up gives me the impression that the driver uses the magic pocket.

shockwave- i did some hauling earlier this year in the 09 and i too found the bench-up position to be more 'real world useful' than the trunk + seatback down position.

the thing is, with the big cavity opening from the floor to the ceiling to the walls (seat backs of the front seats and the bench bottom of the back seats) i can fit bulky stuff in its upright position and i didnt have to worry about laying it on its side or sliding around in the cargo hold.

the magic seats are truely useful.

Only time I used tall mode was after a trip to Lowes and had some really tall plants. All of my camping trips and hauling I usually have the seats folded down flat.

I have my kid's car seat on the pass side and the wider driver's side section stays in tall mode. I find it more convinient to just put stuff on the floor in the back than open the hatch. Plus I don't have a cargo mat and everything sticks to that hairy carpet. The back seat has the factory all weather mats.

Usually I keep all of the seats except the driver's of course in the down position and groceries are usually put on the backs of the rear seats or if I have a passenger, the stuff goes in the rear with the bench folded up.

I keep my rear seats in the tall mode. I like the vertical space--plus, it seems to keep the hatch-area noise down.

I usually have the rear passenger-side seat in tall mode...I have a small dog so it's easier for her to jump in, and then she can jump onto the driver-side seat if she wants to look out the window or jump into the front.

So far I have not had a need to use tall mode for actual cargo. I bought a hose cart at Target that seemed like it would fit perfect in tall mode, but was actually too wide and ended up going in the trunk with the seats down

I never thought about putting the seats up. I'll try it next time. I don't have much equipment but here's a picture.

haha, not sure if it was intentional or not but the title immediately reminded me of that song by 2 Live crew "Face down, ass up"

Seats Down, Bench up, that's they way we like to ____.

1coolride- I would suggest you try and use the benches up mode. It'll surely save your seats the wear and tear from your gear. And you'd be amazed at how large that space is when the benches are up.
