IIHS does it again

This time a 2009 Malibu and a 59 Bel Air. As I kept stressing with their small car crash tests, the video angle is deceiving. In this case, the 59 Bel Air is in place of the small cars. So it looks like it "loses" against the Malibu.

Yes, The IIHS-Crashed '59 Chevy Had An Engine - Iihs - Jalopnik

It doesn't "look" like it looses, it just does. I dont know if that is the same video I saw the other day, but the one I saw shows it from abut 5 different angles, and from every angle you can see that the bel air buckles right into the cabin, where the malibu's cabin is more intact.

I'm no great fan of the IIHS. Having said that, I thought was an interesting idea and having seen the video a few times I'm convinced that it's representative of what would have happened.

I think the main message of the video is simply debunking the myth that those cars of yesteryear are safer than today's. This video shouldn't surprise anyone any more than what happens when you put an Accord against a Fit. If anything the driver in the Fit fared a heck of a lot better than the Bel Air's driver, who would have been killed instantly.

OMG! I'm going to buy a 'Bu right now to protect me from all the 50 year old cars that are still on the road! This discretely biased way of advertising has reminded me of the dangers I am constantly in! Thank you IIHS for promoting obviously superior cars!
