Increaseing mileage?

Increaseing mileage?

ok this is my first official car i got for gas mileage.

i went from a modded/lifted 5.3 04 sierra that got 15 on it best day 36 gallon gas tank of 92-93 octane.

then got my stock 04 gto 5.7 6speed.. got 18-20 city and 25-27 highway which i was very happy with it and after i put alot of mods into the car still got the same mileage..

Now i got my g8 6.0 6speed auto with AFM(4cyl mode)ive tuned the car alot with hptuners software and get 18-22 city in it and 25-31 highway depends on speed and habits. i have the 4cyl mode running alot more than the factory tune.

now with the fit its has like 120 miles on it got it from the dealer with 50-60 on it... So far its AVG is 36 which im sure at the dealer was plenty of idling and what and my drive to work is pretty much city driving..

so the question what if there is any mods out there that was tastful maybe to sqeeze some MPG out of this car.

for example my dad sold his 04 Harley F-350 6.0 diesel when diesel went sky high he got a new smart car and Got higher mileage than sticker ever said! worst he has got on a tank is 32 and has seen high high 50's. He put a doug thorly axle back and picked up a few mpg in it..

well the thing that'll really piss you off is when the meter say 36, it really means 32.

lowering gives you better mpg, along with lighter wheels and such

yea thats true..

i really dont wanna dump wheels and tires on it right now. lowering it maybe down the line.. any of the CAI's out there give a increase in mileage? brands that are good?

With so much money put into all those gas guzzlers, why is it all of s sudden so important to squeeze so much out of a Fit?

i wouldnt say the gto or g8 are gas guzzlers at all...

go rip of 12 second pass then jump on the highway and get some good mileage best of both worlds.
plus i dont think that the mileage my g8 gets is too far off from a accord/tsx/TL which are smaller lighter cars..(my buddy has a 08 TL-S and i know it doesnt get the mileage my g8 gets..
but im just seeing whats out there for it..

if i didnt care about mpg i wouldnt have tweaked the 4cyl mod on my g8 and just turned the whole thing off all together...

Drive the car. After the break-in the fuel consumption should drop a bit. Keep tires properly inflated, keep air filters clean and learn a driving style by watching the in-dash meter.

Well there is the eco forum on here that should have more specific tips.

There are also good sites like Fuel Economy, Hypermiling, EcoModding News and Forum - EcoModder.com that have extensive tips and discussion.

Some basics.. lighter wheels and/or flatter/solid hubcaps or rims would help improve mpg. Insight wheels like in Virtual's signature picture above are one example of probably some of the best commercially available rims that hit both points. Alternatively, moon style hubcaps and/or pizza pans can cut down on wind resistance and improve mileage.

If you want to spend a lot of money, it seems like the spoon mirrors being discussed in another thread are a way to cut down on wind resistance, although I haven't seen any mpg improvement figures...

keeping, or making the load lighter will also help..

Your dad going from a f-350 to a smart car must have been quite a major change for him... talk about culture shock.

Any equipment mods that you do to improve MPG probably won't cover their own cost in fuel savings, just keep that in mind.

The higher up you get in MPG, the less actual gain you are getting, both because of the deceptive numbers (need to look at the inverse (euro) rating of gallons/100miles), and the total fuel cost over the life of the car.
