I also own a WRX STI which is heavily modded with at least 20k in mods and has easily over 450hp. As much fun as it is to drive my STI I absolutely love driving my fit. I feel that although it isnt fast it has great all around pick up, handles awesome, and brakes equally well. No complaints here.
Rather than complaining we're identifying weak points; first steps for modification. Since you've spent 20k in modifying your STI I'm sure you understand the reasoning behind that.

My main complaints regarding the brake:

1. The braking power is not linear. Meaning, no matter how hard I mash the brakes, it doesn't brake harder. In emergency situations or situations where you can't anticipate and have to brake harder than normal, the braking response/power is not there!

2. There is a slight slight delay in the brakes. Like if you apply the brakes, it doesn't come until a split second later. This is no biggie, but something I noticed.

Now I feel like I have to brake WELL IN ADVANCE if I don't want any close call situations and to stop a safe distance from the car ahead and to avoid any super hard braking. This is making me worried since winter is coming and stopping ahead of time is even more important!

Like others I and 3 other Fits here don't have any of your troubles. Perhaps you need to look at your whole braking system consisting of not only rotors & pads but also tires.
Could be you don't see any quicker' stopping as you press harder because your pads just don't have the increase in friction with more brake force. Check for pad or rotor problems with lubed surfaces, smaller contact area and such. Check your tires to see just how much grip they offer in stopping your Fit. For one, the standard Dunslops aren't very good compared to a number of other tires.
And last check for leaks around the braking pistons. When you find that you don't increase brake force with increasing pedal force thats often the case. At a standstill apply the brake pedal hard for several minutes and see if the pedal goes in. Thats a sure sign of a leak probably in the master cylinder. if you don't see signs at the wheels of leaks there.
Oh yes, make sure your brake system is free of air bubbles. That alone will cause all your problems all by itself.
good luck.

These are the brakes that I am running on my STI. And like I said before I think the Fit drives and stops awesome for the cost. The only weak point I feel that this car has is the lack of more top end power. But on that same instance it wasn't designed to really have any so I would never even feel the need for it. I cant say enough about how well the fit drives.
By the way if anyone happens to ask these are Advan model 5 wheels. I had to wait 6 months from the time of the order for these to come in from Japan.

I thought I would throw my 2 cents in too.

I don't have a problem with any kind of delay when the pedal is pressed. I find it actually bites really hard just by pressing it a tiny bit. If anything the brakes catch too hard at the start of application.

I DO think the OEM brakes are crap though. My rotors warped pretty quickly and the calipers don't evenly distribute the pad wear. I have totally uneven pad wear so I took it in and they said the calipers were just fine. WTF? How could the calipers be fine if I get one sided wear? The sliders should be seized if that happens. I don't know if the dealer was just blowing smoke up my ass to avoid replacing them under warranty or if its true. Either way the next time I need to replace the pads I'm going aftermarket rotors, calipers and pads.

I've had no problems with the brakes so far. At around 30K, I had to replace my rotors because I warped them. I ended up getting pads, stainless steel brake lines, and Endless brake fluid. Now my brakes are up to par.

some interesting foot notes......

1. the Fit AT has a whopping 64% front weight bias (which is probably 5-6% more than an average FWD car) Civic for example is 61%
so more work is required of just the front tire contact patches.

2. This one is cool.........
the torsion beam rear suspension has amazing braking anti nose dive properties. To be more specific, the rear end squats under braking.
Try it, with your emergency brake on, nudge the car forward, the rear squats.
Now go in reverse with e brake on, the rear rises.
This is a NICE feature!

Has anyone upgraded a GE to larger front calipers and front disc?
What is involved with a front brake upgrade?
How much does it cost to drill 4 holes into a larger 5 lug honda/acura rotor?
Are Integra Type R front calipers and front disc the best upgrade?

I, like many others who have responded, don't have either of your brake problems. The braking isn't what it would be if Fits came with front and rear disks... but there are no problems with the brakes.

You should tell your friend first of all to get his brakes checked ASAP by an authorized Honda dealer. Secondly, if you're a true friend, you will immediately tell him/her how you're (obviously) driving the livin' crap outa' his/her GE!

Sorry about the second... I just couldn't pass it up. It was all too easy!

BTW... Get those brakes checked, or you could possibly be telling him/her about an accident... if what you say is true.

num 2 here is the laws of physics at work. any system with a trailing suspension will squat under braking. Take a full suspension Mountain bike out for a ride and squeeze the rear brakes, the rear will squat. This is because of the swinging motion of the suspension.
