The wheel and tire packages from Tire Rack include lug nuts appropriate for the target application. My set-up came with some cone-seat acorn-like nuts, nicely chromed.

I've been through this drill on previous cars. In this case, one thing you don't want to forget is to keep at least one wheel's worth of OE nuts in your trunk for spare-tire contigency usage.

Good point on keeping a set in the trunk for the spare! I didn't even think of that!

Just wanted to add my experience...I ordered the 175 tire package from TireRack with the cheapest 15 inch Sport Edition alloys, and the blizzaks. This was only the second time in my life that I have taken wheels off of a car, so really was learning as I went, but I followed all the proper rules. EXCEPT, that I didn't know that these tires were directional!!!! I was putting them on my FIT in my garage which had some lighting but not a lot of lighting and when I got to the last tire and was getting ready to bolt it on, I saw the little rotation arrow on the sidewall At least I got 2 out of the 4 right and only had to switch out two of them.

I also decided to go without the TPMS and will just deal with the light on the dash for a few months. When I took the car out for a spin to check it out, I was surprised at how much smoother the ride is with the winter tires. I was expecting a lot more rode noise and a rougher ride.

Good comment. Fun keeping track of them all
Also, remember to carry a set of oem in case you need the spare.

Oops, didn't realize the new comments had moved to a new page...

I missed that too the first time. I noticed that my newest tirerack set had the centering ring and clip in place with a paper cover. The first set, a couple of years ago, didn't have them in place and the clips went missing. Getting the centering ring in place wasn't too bad without.

pharmpk,

This is a mistake you only make once! For the rest of my life I will now know to look and see if the tires are directional. I do not want to do double the work. My rings were already installed as well, which was once less thing for me to worry about.

lug nut sources?

Hi,

Great forum here! We just bought a '10 Fit Sport, and I've just ordered a set of 15X5.5 steel wheels for snow tires. I know I'll need a set of nuts for these wheels. I've seen prices at about $4.15 each, online, for them, which I believe are Honda nuts. Does anyone know a source for getting them cheaper?

How about those little hubcaps that press-fit into the center hole? I used to use these on my just retired '91 Civic Wagon. (296K)

I'm doing fine with the stock Dunlops in serious snow. I'll not be doing snows- too much bother and money. In case it hasn't been noticed, the wheel wells can get packed with snow pretty quickly. Not much clearence to be had even with the stock tires. I'd consider that when choosing a tire size. This is the smallest wheel well gap I've ever delt with. Snow builds up fast and compramises handling in hurry. Be careful.

Thanks for that perspective. I've been used to the wheelwells on our other cars, an '04 Corolla and that legendary '091 Civic Wagon. As a resident of the upper NE, I'm used to checking wheelwells for ice and snow, but I'll watch even more carefully since your post.

I ran Hakka's on the Civic in the winter for years, and it was always much more sure-footed in snow than it was with regular "all seasons" tires. I assume the Fit will be similar, esp. since the winter tires will be 175's, instead of the 185/16's that my car came with.

Now I just need to find some decent cheap lug-nuts to hold the steelies on....

Did you purchase the Honda 15 x 5.5" wheels? If so, the lugs from your Sport should work fine. You just can't install the Base wheel covers.

Also, the little hub caps from your old Civic will work fine. I have a set on my car from an '89 Civic. The hub bore is 56.1 mm, which is the same as (all) 4 x 100 Hondas.

you mean, old nuts are good nuts? ;-)

I did, indeed, order Honda steel wheels---they haven't come yet. But I was sure that they would need different nuts because the mating surfaces would be shaped differently. I will check this out, and if you're right, thanks for saving me some bucks!

I have the same Honda steelies (from the base Fit), and the lugs from my Sport work perfectly. They are all ball seat type. The problem you can encounter is if you use aftermarket wheels - oftentimes they require a different lug.
