Is this normal???
Hi I own an 09 fit base M/T and today for the first time I decided I wanted to test my fits top speed .... Well I was going about 116 mph and my Rpms were Around 5,500 then I noticed my rpms jumped back to like 4,500 I also felt my engine like it was cutting the fuel or something !!
Lol honestly It didn't take me that long it picked up ok from 0 to 90 but after that It took forever but I guess the top speed for me was 116 I wonder if the sport fit is the same ??? But my real question is why did the rpms bounce back if anyone can answer that
I started yesterday. Maybe another hour or two.
You're probably 21 judging by your screen name. You should know about these things by now. Its a governor. Its designed to help keep you from ruining the drivetrain. Not the engine itself since, of course, it can handle the rpms. But more likely the transmission, differential, cv joints or whatever part it might be that honda believes may have a slight risk of failing above that speed. Honda is not going to risk you breaking something and trying to make a warranty claim on it. For example my previous Thunderbird was governed above 112 mph due to a risk that the drive shaft would resonate at higher speeds and potentialy become unbalanced leading ultimately to a failure at either Universal joint. Many reputable shops would not remove the governor as a part of an ecu upgrade until you installed a new drive shaft.
Also, being an insurance agent, and seeing how CA is one of the states I sell in, I might as well warn you that a single speeding ticket can increase your rates by $300 - $700 each 6 month period if you currently have no tickets. multiply that over the next 3 years and you will have yourself a $1800 - $4200 mistake.

You're right
Thanks for that reply ... I was hoping for someone who would give me the details on why it did that and you explained it great... I don't speed like that and honestly I come from a f'd up town called Fresno where I was raised by a bunch of street racers and I didn't want to follow what they were doing which was one of the reasons why I got the fit.. Cause it had an aggresive look but little power, I was just testing the top speed out in the country and it took forever to get to 116 before it droped my rpms and speed

Definitely sounds like the imposed 180km/h limits of Japan, though that would be just under 112mph. You could always try to get a speed limit cut device and then see how fast it would go. Of course doing so on a closed roadway/circuit type of area.
