they told me to bring "records" of the discrepancies.
fortunately i had a full year's record of each and every tankful.

How does your hand calculated "liters/100km" compare to the car's computer? If it's within 3% you're good.

The best thing to do is print out the PDF and take it in when you go. I had this same issue when I had my Volvo S40. I called before my service and they had no clue, so I printed the service thing out and took it in and said, "oh... yah we can do this with your oil change".

Now only if they can provide a service bulletin that having a lack of a 6th gear causes too much high rev in the engine, and provides us with a free transmission replacement

then my Fit will be perfect!!

yeah yeah, in my dreams.....

The Fit is at the dealer right now for this and a wonky passenger airbag sensor. They're acting all squirmy, so it may not get done without the TSB shoved under their noses.

I just called my dealer and they were very short and almost angry sounding with me. I mentioned the TSB, explained what it was, and told them I wanted to set up an appointment, and they told me they didn't know what I was talking about and that if I hadn't been contacted directly by Honda, then it must not exist or apply to my car. They said I could come in and talk to them and show them, but it wasn't their fault, they can't do anything because it doesn't exist in their records.

I'm going in anyway.

Sheesh; maybe the person you were talking with was having a bad day. Is there any possibility of finding another dealer? My dealer was totally cooperative -- even though I didn't buy the car from them. I've had two good Honda dealer experiences now: Martin Honda, Newark, DE, where I bought the Fit, and Curry Honda, Atlanta, which did the software update for the mileage gauge. Although I like to do most of my own work, I'll be taking the Fit to Curry for the first oil change. Good dealers should be recognized, although it's bad ones that garner most of the attention.

i'm beginning to feel lucky my dealer didnt give me crap.

when i originally called they knew nothing of the update... it had only been issued 3 days prior. but the guy looked... and looked and eventually found the SB. and just set me up w/ an appointment.

i say if a dealer is giving you crap about it, call honda america and complain. 1-800- 999-1009. that seems to usually make dealers snap to attention.

I sent them an email with the PDF of the TSB and mentioned that I have the records that show my actual mileage vs. the gauge mileage for the life of the car (bought it in March).

I was doing this through Capital Honda, which is the only Honda dealer in the greater Lansing area. I actually didn't buy the car there--I bought it in Jackson, about 40 miles south of here, because they happened to be the only dealer anywhere near here to have a M/T Fit at that time. I really don't feel like driving 40 miles to get this fixed though. And oddly, Capital Honda's service department reputation is surprisingly good and they have been very good to me so far for other routine maintenance (their sales dept. on the other hand has a reputation for being pushy and annoying, another reason I didn't go through them to try to locate a M/T Fit--at one point they told me they couldn't!).

I started the original thread, and now mine reads absolutely dead on. Good fix. Other manufacturers, like GM, would tell us to take a hike. All I can have is praise for Honda and their attention to detail and their customers

Call American Honda, they will tell you to go to your dealer and inform them that AH told you to go to them, and call AH. The difference in attitude from the dealer after having that told to them is astounding. Mine was nasty too, till I called AH.

Just got back from getting it done. I went in and talked to the service dept. head instead of the desk receptionist, and they looked at the TSB I had and the spreadsheet of mileage, and despite initial confusion about it all, he was like "oh, well this looks like something we can do, we've never seen it and aren't sure why you have it, but pull your car in and we'll do it." So they did it. It took a while because he said their computer wasn't set up to do it yet, but they got it done. I'll see how my next few tanks are.

He also mentioned that the person I talked to on the phone isn't always real nice to people when they think they know more about something than she does and that that bugs a lot of the service people because it makes customers come in grumpy because of the discussions they've had with her first. After I got past her, they acted real nice and helpful the way they have in the past.

The dealer (Lia Honda of Williamsville) did the update just as requested. Said that they had to look a bit for it, and we were some of the first to request the update. They also took care of our other requests. So far an A for service.

For something like this, where you are contacting the dealer, rather than the other way around, I wouldn't think of trying to set it up by phone -- there's just too much possibility for confusion. I drove to the dealer, showed the service guy my printed TSB, he read it, and we and made an appointment for the next day.

Of course, if my nearest dealer was 40-50 miles away, I might feel differently.

Even when I went in in person, the service guys were still a bit confused and skeptical because they'd never seen the TSB I was showing them. The guy started giving me a lecture about the difference between a TSB and a recall notice and then told me that a customer wouldn't know if a TSB applied to their own car if they hadn't gotten a notice...it was only once I showed him my mileage chart and pointed out exactly the description on the TSB that he suddenly realized it was just an easy fix and that I actually did know what I was talking about.

So yeah, the phone setup thing definitely just caused more confusion than it was worth.

How many data points do you have to show the dealer? I never bothered to keep track of what the computer said, since I knew it was wrong . I started keeping track after I heard about the TSB, but I think I'm only going to have 4 tanks to show them when I bring it in. I could make up numbers for the rest of the tanks if I had to, I suppose...
