When setting up an appointment like this, reference the TSB by number; better yet, bring your own printed copy with you. Glad to hear you had a positive response; some dealers seem to understand the concept of Service Department better than others. In general, my experiences have been good, but it's a two-way conversation, and the more information you can provide the dealer, generally, the better. "It doesn't work" or "It feels funny" or "It's making a funny noise" aren't very helpful.

When I scheduled the appointment, I was quite clear and DID provide them the TSB number. It's only helpful if the technicians have THEIR computers updated, though. My car WAS up to the currrent level of THEIR computer, but not up to THE current level.

Had the TSB done while getting my 1st oil change.
dash indicated 25.5
hand calculated 24.4
so far it is much closer....
now if I could just figure out why after switching to Mobil 1 I proceeded to get my worst mileage yet!

Thanks. The service manager DID in fact follow up and called me back this afternoon. He again stated that I was right....the technician that looked at my car last night had not updated his computer (or whatever the technical term is for the device that they reflash with). He told me that he was the ONLY tech there that hadn't updated his computer. Ah well...maybe yes, maybe no. Who can say. He offered to send someone over to pick up my car and deliver it back to me when it was done. While I appreciated the offer, I told him that it certainly wasn't an emergency and that wasn't really necessary. He then told me to let him know when I wanted to stop back in and he'd take care of me right away. So all is good....it was far from the blow-off that I anticipated.

I was later told that my Fit qualified and that the upgrade would be done.

That was on December 1st, and I've filled the tank several times since, and there hasn't been any improvement at all in the gauge accuracy.

What to do, what to do......?
Went in for an oil change on Tuesday and told the service advisor about the apparent fail of the TSB update.

Asked that it be done again, even if I had to pay for it.

Now the gage seems to be much closer to the actual on my SGII, haven't filled the tank though to be sure.

It can only be updated using the HDS Tablet or the H.I.M. conneced to a laptop that has the HDS program on it. The update may or may not show up on the VIN Status Inquiry that the service writer does. The only real way to know is by connecting the HDS...it will read the modules and tell you which ones need updating. We had a problem with our HDS because the office where it is stored got rearranged and the network cable on the docking station got plugged into the wrong port, causing the HDS not to receive any updates for several months. I suspect this has happened at some of the aforementioned dealers. We got it fixed and now with the new HDS software release the HDS will shut down if it doesn't receive any updates for at least 3 days.

hi.

i've also been experiencing the same inaccuracy in the mpg display. i called my dealer to see if and when i can have it done and was told that my car's VIN was not included for the TSB. additionally, the service advisor mentioned that the Fit was not designed to calculate fuel mixed with ethanol. since the gas we have available here in florida contains 10% ethanol, could this be where the discrepancy in the calculation is occurring? has anyone else been told similar?

Not sure about your VIN. As for their ethanol answer. I've always had ethanol in my tanks and after I had the TSB done my readings became much closer. I'd press the issue with them if you want your readings more accurate.

That sounds like total crap to me. Especially the Ethanol part. But I don't understand the whole VIN thing, either. If the car is still under warranty, shouldn't they do the TSB if you tell them it's not measuring the MPG's correctly?

Call another dealer or just call them back and talk to the service manager. This TSB will affect almost all if not ALL 09 fit's. if they give you the same crap, e-mail American Honda and include your VIN and, your dealer's response and their phone number in the e-mail. The Ethanol thing is crap and is just some tech who thinks they know more than they really do. The Sensor should be calculating amount of fuel used and shouldn't care what type it is.

If it's a 2009 Fit it's covered by the TSB (specifies "all vins"). Ethanol, while it has an effect on mileage, won't make the calculation inaccurate. The electronic fuel injection knows how much fuel is being metered. It's not rocket science (actually maybe it is).

Are the 2010 Fit's displays inaccurate or did Honda already fix this for 2010?

First fill-up today after running through a whole tank since the MPG meter reset. Meter showed 23.3..................actual MPG 23. Pretty much dead-on after allowing for fill variables.

2009 Fit MPG

After keeping careful records for 1 year, I am happy to report that my Average MPG is 34.6 mpg. (I have, however, been "obsessed" with conservation of energy). I'm sure that if were to go back to my "normal" driving habbits, I would probably be getting closer to 30 or 31 mpg.

The data also showed an average error of 10%.

Here's the data: http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?k...GNVNKN3c&hl=en

Enjoy... and I'm looking forward to having TSB 09-086 taken care of soon.

I was driving my friend's '09 Fit yesterday and noticed that the on-board computer read 24.1 mpg. A manual hand calculation at fill-up showed 18.8 mpg. That's about 27% off! I guess I'll need to get the dealer to update the software.

Wow! is that right? -That means the last tankful, where I did a lot of local county highway driving (50-70 MPH for around 150 miles with few traffic lights), and got 39.4 MPG's, was a fairly accurate reading?
I had thought for sure that was an optimistically inflated number?
