Hit a rolling piece of concrete today going 70. :(
I've been the proud owner of a 2010 Storm Silver Nav Fit for 3 weeks now. On my way down to LA, I spotted a football sized chunk of mystery concrete rolling across the 101 that seemed to come outta nowhere. I couldn't swerve because of cars on both sides of me. The hit the damn thing square into my front license plate. It really couldn't have picked a better place to hit; kinda like a golden locket that stops a stray bullet. It did manage to break my lower bumper grille, scratch the inside of the bumper cover and put a nice little dent into the AC condenser. This frustrated the holy hell out of me, because this weekend I was going to install the mesh to protect the condenser. I don't think the damage to the condenser is that bad, but just to be sure I'll post pics this weekend for everyone's opinions. I think I can afford to buy a new bumper cover and have it painted for less than my insurance deductible, but not sure if I'm going to bother. Makes me sick to think my new car is already scarred. I drove an Audi Allroad for 5 years and never put a scratch on it. Bummed to say the least.
If you hit a fixed, standing object with your car it is considered a collision under your insurance policy and your collision deductible would apply.
If you hit a moving, rolling, flying, falling (whatever) object that is not still and stationary it is covered by your comprehensive portion of your policy and a lot of people, if not most, don't have a deductible under comprehensive coverage.

That sucks, I know. A similar experience happened to me a few days after Christmas 2008 - only that it hit my GD's front right wheel, bent it and wrecked my tire's sidewall.
At least you're still okay - the car can always be fixed.

Any insurance company you want. I spent 25 years in the auto insurance claims business and the deductible under collision that the majority of people had was $100.00 and their deductible under comprehensive was by far most often zero.
Sorry to hear about your car. That is the bad thing about driving a car so low to the ground and that open area where the AC condenser sits. Hope you are able to get it fixed and can avoid those flying objects in the future.

I just finished up installing mesh to protect the AC condenser. As soon as I pulled the condenser area cover off, I spotted the culprit. A 4x10 piece of steel (1/2" thick) sitting on the inside of the lower bumper. Thank god it hit the license plate and not my windshield. It put a decent nick into the condenser, but by the size and weight of this thing, it should have ripped right through that. For the first time ever, I'm glad that California has a front license plate law.
wha??? then you must've exited the industry many yrs (perhaps many decades) ago and have been living under a rock since, because that's simply not true today...
