The 06 CR-V is bigger, but we really can't fit more people in with much more comfort. The luggage area is bigger. However, for daily use, the Fit holds just as much. Or so goeth my opinion. I have both, so no axe to grind.

I had the 91 (the last year they made them) Civic Wagon AWD for 15 years. It had double wishbone front suspension and multi-link in the back. It's still my favorite. Too bad Honda doesn't offer AWD option for the Fit in the U.S.

No, the original Civic had a 1200cc, watercooled, inline 4. However, its predecessor, the N600, had a 2-cylinder, SOHC air-cooled parallel twin was very similar in its layout to Honda motorcycles of the era, although it was purpose built for the N600, with a normal gear-driven differential and 4-speed gearbox (constant mesh, like a motorcycle, rather than synchromesh). The shifter sprouted from the middle of the dashboard, and with double clutching and good technique, the transmission could be shifted quietly, but it required practice and skill. I bought a new N600 for $1600 in 1970, put 93,000 miles on it, and sold it in 1978 for $1000. With JDM cam and carb, plus Koni rear shocks, it was the funnest car I've ever owned. Like the Fit, it made incredibly good use of interior space, and the rear seat was easily removable in a few minutes.
