Talking What is this metallic sound!!!

Hey FitFreaks

So I have just broken the 40k mark on my GE8 SSM

I've replace the tires, brakes, gone synthetic and am loving the car but I notice that since the tire change ( where I went to a 205 55, 16) I hear the occasional click or clunk when driving over bumps or hitting small potholes (there are so many in NJ and NYC that avoiding them all is a mission!!!)

The car has lost some stiffness but I attribute that to the miles in the car (70% highway throughout NJ) but can anyone submit some ideas as to what this may be.

For comparison's sake it sounds alot like when going from reverse to drive and the calipers make a click sound...

look forward to some good replies...later

Sup man!

Check for a rock or road debris in your brakes

Wassuo FitDeez!

Funny you should say that since it did happen and MMMAAANNNN let me tell you how I caught a "fit" my rotors were being brutalized by some rocks or rock salt in NYC......but this is different it a quick click or clank like something might be loose.

BTW nice look with the Bike Rack, been thinking about getting one myself for the two I got at home....how much did that run you?

also you guys still meeting up in NJ?

Listen to your Brakes

Two things I'm seeing lately.

1
- FIT brakes start acting up around 40K.
2
- folks are thinking that a brake noise means "road debris" in the brakes.

I'll go with one, however, in all my years it's been that when your brakes make a noise it's time to take a look. The noise is not going to go away to a good end. It might very well go away - BUT - it will be at a cost.

Some how with the spoke type wheels on the Sport folks are thinking stuff is going to be more prone to "get in there". Sorry but all brake systems take a beating, just because you can see them doesn't mean they are more prone to anything - unless some fool runs around with a spray can of sillykone and hits the front rotors on you.

Pads and shoes have warning strips that sound off to get your attention to take a look to see what's going on. Listen to them. Take your ride to those who know if you're unsure.

Your brakes are the primary safety feature of your vehicle - not a place to fool around.

I understand, and know the sounds to listen for....these are new brakes and new slotted rotors put on when the car had 34k and replaced the tires as well at the time...these brakes are good!

I jumped the gun on this one

The clink/clunk might be related to the stabilizer link. Not sure on the FIT, but a bad bushing there can produce a clunk going over slight road hazards - and you're driving in a war zone Santiad. That link takes a beating - check it out.

Huh - lever too late to find something new. Not the first thing I would think of - actually never really thought of it before, but this is my first Honda.

Yeah, no crap... and it's getting worse! Oh for the days of Giuliani... when the graffiti was cleaned up, the roads were dramatically better than they had been for years, the police force was cleaned up, crime went waaaaayyyyyyy down, and NYC felt like a place you actually wanted to visit once again.

This Bloomberg guy is a flippin' PC joke and a clown who's letting the city go to crap again.

My point? Yeah, NYC and parts of Jersey are mildly reminiscent of driving a flippin' Rally circuit! I loved NYC for awhile there. Now, I wouldn't drive a 4-wheeler of mine on it's rapidly sucking, bump/pothole infested streets. I'd be terrified driving my Fit there!

Sorry for the rant... and sorry you have to go through that unnecessary ordeal on a daily basis... especially considering what you NYC folks have to endure in the form of rude and obscene taxation. One would think you'd at least get better roads and driving conditions. I'm surprised your Fit doesn't make a lot more strange sounds.

I hope there's nothing wrong with your ride, man.
